Materially there is no reason not to have a society with a relative level of technology that is not based on material growth of the "whatever the cost" type.
It is precisely the material growth of capitalism that does not select the technologies which would be the most ethical, the most useful for life, but selects the technologies allowing rapid financial growth, a rapid return on investment.
I don't know if that was GuyGadeboisLeRetour's idea with his "Gattaca", but capitalism does not favor eugenics on technologies, that is to say a thoughtful and mature selection on technologies.
As said previously, it is the return on investment, profitability and advertising hype, which make the choice of technologies for us.
The will, the deep human aspiration has no place.
So yes, today is an oxymoron but tomorrow?
