The West abhors socialist heads of state who apply a policy of national interest, and who avoid the debt and IMF trap as much as possible.
Correa is like Chavez in his time. Their idea is simple: sell national hydrocarbons at best, and inject profits in the country, fairly.
Such a position places them against the USA. Chavez was also one of the most savage ... a few misfortunes happened to him. Correa seems more diplomatic.
