Housing: a zero-rate loan for major green jobs

A "green" zero rate loan should see the light of day next year. French people who wish to finance work to improve energy savings in their homes can borrow up to 30 euros. An envelope allocated without conditions of resources, according to information from the daily Les Echos.

For complete renovation programs
Supported by the Minister of Ecology, Jean-Louis Borloo, this measure is in keeping with the spirit of the Grenelle of the environment organized last year. The building sector accounts for almost a quarter of national greenhouse gas emissions, which could be considerably reduced by the renovation of housing.

This is why, according to Les Echos, this loan would only be used to finance comprehensive energy performance improvement programs, combining "for example, a roof renovation, window changes and the installation of an ecological boiler. ". Only limit: the amount of the work must not exceed 300 euros per square meter. However, limited renovations, such as the insulation of an attic or the replacement of a roof window would not qualify for this loan.

Bonus for the purchase of "low consumption" housing
This new tax system will not be added to the various tax credits already offered for the installation of ecological equipment. On the other hand, it will be open to holders of the zero rate loan for home ownership, which gives a boost to low-income households to complete their financing file. If they buy "low consumption" housing, these households can have an extension of up to 20 euros.
