"Very abnormally" high number of thunderstorm days in July 2009
July 2009 will go down in climatological history as a month with a "very abnormally" low relative humidity and a "very abnormally" high number of thunderstorm days, according to the climatological report for the month of July carried out by the Royal Institute of Meteorology (IRM) in Uccle.
Last month, there were 18 stormy days, which MRI describes as "very abnormal", a phenomenon that is only equaled or exceeded once every ten years. The normal value is 13 days. Also "very abnormal", the relative humidity, which rose to 70 pc, while the normal value is 78,5 pc. The average temperature rose to 18,7 degrees, the average maximum temperature to 23,6 degrees, and the minimum temperature to 14,5 degrees. These are all normal temperatures for the first month of vacation. The sun shone 214 hours, the average for July. The 20 days of precipitation and 73,1 mm of precipitation are also within the normal range. At 1013,7 hPa and 14,2 hPa, the atmospheric pressure and the mean vapor pressure were "abnormal". This means that it is a phenomenon that is only matched or exceeded once every six years. (DAD)
