Save the Great Hamster of Alsace !!!!!!
Hello everyone !
I work in a nature protection NGO and I would like to inform you of the disappearance of a species: the Great Hamster of Alsace.
The Large Hamster (Cricetus cricetus) is a rodent the size of a guinea pig from Alsace. Since 1990, this species has been in decline to the point that today it is one of the most endangered French animal species (1167 burrows in 2000 against 161 in 2007).
Its populations are today estimated at the number of 300 to 500 individuals while its viability threshold is 1500 units. Despite the establishment of a conservation plan in 2000-2004 by the Ministry of Ecology, the species continues to decline dramatically. If no one acts the Big Hamster will disappear within 3 years.
I note that very few people are aware of this tragedy for French biodiversity.
In order not to let this animal die in general indifference, copy / paste this message and send it to all your contacts.
It is about the survival of a species !!!

premiums for the destruction of the hamster were paid and would have stopped after its classification ...
a few years ago a captive breeding project existed but I don't know what qye gave ...
the Belgians came across a population in Wallonia, we don't have much information, the secret was kept to protect them ...
in the low countries there should not be any more, the very small colony crossed the border to settle in Germany when we cultivated their habitat
FYI, the hgamster found in pet stores is the Syrian hamster. They are all descendants of 7 hamsters (one litter) found at ALEP .... since a single capture was made and no other observations ..
