No. I calculate for projects on Boinc on a personal basis, and one day I looked at the source code of the LAL which seeks the signature of the gravitational waves.
I saw that I could pass some of the computations from the processor to the graphics card, and then the Fourier transforms only processed the real part. So I changed the code to process 2 samples at the same time with an upstream convolution. I won a factor 10 .
I was almost the einstein @ home contributor with the strongest LOL computing power.
I shared my code with the University of Hamburg and did support for Nvidia cards and especially for Windows.
This is the good side of Open Source. Everyone can help advance science.
