Towards an “econological” philosophy
“Commun-Eau-Terre” organization
by Audrey Jacques

Some small steps can take us very far. This is in a way what the founders of the organization “Commun-eau-terre” are trying to demonstrate, Angèle Courville and Philippe Émmanuel David. By focusing on cooperation and solidarity between citizens, merchants and the municipality, they hope to recreate a passion for community life.

Much like Green Peace or Équiterre, "Commun-eau-terre" wants to give citizens tools, but above all the will to act directly on their environment. “We have to relearn how to appreciate our neighborhood and our neighborhood, just like our family. Knowing that every action we take has repercussions on those around us, we would be more likely to be careful, ”explains Angèle Courville.

Resume contact with his community; that's a challenge, but according to the founders of “Commun-eau-terre”, it's the best way to see changes. “We generally know very little about our neighborhood and the people who live there. The first thing to do is to encourage local merchants. We sometimes forget that there are traders very close to us who can offer us a lot, ”she adds.

Resuming contact with your community also means developing a feeling of belonging towards it. A lost feeling which, however, is necessary if we want to revive the links that unite its members. “One of the great efforts that tends to recreate this atmosphere is the market at Sainte-Thérèse station. However, there are very few visitors. This is our market, we must encourage it! I find that there is a lack of pride among citizens in relation to their local market, ”deplore Angèle and Philippe Émmanuel.

The philosophy of “Commun-eau-terre” is expressed through the triangle model: “A triangle with, at each of its ends, an important player; the citizen, the merchant and the municipality. Each of these players must reconnect with each other so that we can find a better balance and allow everyone to benefit from each other's strengths, ”explains Philippe Émmanuel.
Coming together to provide resources
"Commun-eau-terre" is an association of volunteer citizens who care about the quality of their environment. Each member is free to bring ideas, challenges to be met; in short, to invite others to take small actions which, on a daily basis, can change things.

“We use no leverage to make our views known. We do awareness raising by example and popular education ”, he insists.

Also musicians and teachers at the Piano Green School, Angèle Courville and Philippe Émmanuel David use music as a megaphone, much like Richard Desjardins, they point out. "The song has a very strong social role and just like the music, it serves us as a platform to put forward our ideas", illustrates Angèle.

You will also have the opportunity to hear them on August 25th on the occasion of the Day of regional flavors which will be held at the market of the Sainte-Thérèse station. A unique chance to learn a little more about the “Commun-eau-terre” organization, but above all to hear the two musicians at work.
