Home by Y. Arthus-Bertrand, offered to Earth tomorrow?

by Christophe » 04/06/09, 09:53

Tomorrow is the release of Home, Yann Arthus Bertrand's latest film, a special evening on FR2 broadcasts it "live" if I may say so.

Indeed, the film is released in the public domain from the 1st day: we can therefore download it freely (if so)! I wonder if this is not a first in the history of cinema! They said the movie sessions were free, check it out!

Home

Production: Yann Arthus-Bertrand.

Date: 05 / 06 / 2009
Schedule: 20H40 - 22H10
Duration: 90 mn

In a few decades, man has broken a balance made up of nearly four billion years of Earth's evolution. He is now putting his future and that of the planet at risk. The price to pay is heavy but it is too late to be pessimistic: there are barely ten years left for humanity to become aware of its disproportionate exploitation of the riches of the Earth and change its mode of consumption and production. By offering original images of more than fifty countries seen from the sky, by sharing his wonder as much as his concern, Yann Arthus-Bertrand poses with this film a stone in a building that it is now a question of preserving together.

It will be followed by a debate by the excellent Yves Calvi:

HOW TO SAVE THE PLANET? Entertain. - Special issue

Date: 05 / 06 / 2009
Schedule: 22H20 - 23H34
Duration: 74 mn

Following the broadcast of the documentary “Home”, by Yann Arthus-Bertrand, Yves Calvi, surrounded by specialists, wonders about existing solutions to save the planet. In just a few decades, overconsumption has put the Earth on its knees. Pollution of the air, soil and seas, depletion of energy resources, disruption of ecosystems and climate change are the results of an economic policy focused on immediate profit at the expense of long-term management of the planet. The most pessimistic believe that it is already too late. What is it really like? How to reverse the course of history?

No econologist was contacted to participate in this debate? : Mrgreen: : Mrgreen:

For my part, I heard on the radio: "at reduced price" ... ????

A little reminder: Yann Arthus-Bertrand had already distributed a set of posters from his books, with comments, free of charge in all French schools (maybe high schools only?) ...

Well, he has a consummate art of sponsorship ...

I think there is a certain sincerity in him in his desire to reach the widest possible audience with ideas that are not too simplified (and images that sign the photographer, even on TV) ...

I also know he does a lot of conferences. He had been contacted for a "bio-obernai" operation (an "organic" fair with a conference) and he had not said no a priori ...

Yeah, well, nothing exaggerated either: it doesn't work for free like many other actors (you, me, them ...) in the environment.

This film was the object of a patronage apparently. I don't know who but I saw L. Besson next to Yann during an interview.

I doubt that he really touched anything on this project but I can be wrong!

I do not see where the problem is :

1) there is no shame in being paid for a job - within reason, of course

2) The approach is nonetheless original

3) The goal is to educate the public, I think this goal is largely achieved and we would be wrong to play the sorrowful minds.

4) Y. Arthus Bertrand has notoriety and know-how: so much the better, let him continue!

It's a great initiative

there is indeed only open source to broadcast a message to a majority

afterwards, we are motivated or not
personally, I would go see it on the big screen in an all-digital room, paid or not.

Yes it's over, it was not bad despite some inaccuracies or even errors (a flagrant one! The “(boats) oil tankers are getting bigger and bigger.” This is wrong: the biggest (550 T) were built France in the 000s and dismantled in the 70s.

Batillus class: http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Batillus

And the biggest in the world: Knock Nevis http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MSG2tE-gKVU
http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knock_Nevis (but he no longer travels)

).

Now the debate ... I'm afraid it will go in circles ...

I still ask myself a question, even if this fact suits me, as to the schedule for the broadcast of this superb film whose end I just watched ...

Indeed, it is timely for the European elections to promote the "green" parties and I wonder if there is manipulation (and the string would be very big ...) or simple coincidence ...

Small parenthesis: I am following the debate on Fr2, and according to YAB, its the film is copyright-free (viewable and downloadable for free, open-source ???)

Another little parenthesis in relation to the debate that grieves me: it is said on several occasions that we must not blame emerging countries (China in the lead) for being polluting. This approach has the opposite effect of pointing fingers, while China is not far from being the leading producer and user of renewable energy production systems.

It's such a pleasure to write in a vacuum ... :?

+1, not far away are you sure? Who is the 1st? The USA?

The real question of responsibility for the pollution of China (and others) is this: who buys the most (with the economic consequences) Chinese production? The Chinese or us (the rich countries)?
