The National People's Congress of China has just adopted an amendment to a Renewable Energy Law, forcing suppliers to buy renewable energy produced by power plants.
The amendment was voted on Saturday after a second hearing at a five-day meeting of the standing committee of the National People's Congress of China. It stipulates that the energy office of the State Council of China and the public body of energy control will supervise these purchases. It encourages network companies to innovate and improve network management. China wants to increase the share of renewable energy in the country's total consumption by 10% in 2010. A rate that will increase to 15% in 2020.
