And yes, we all think more or less the same. The concern is that it doesn't really cost the same to grow outdoors or in a confined space. However, it is all the same above all to earn money that these multinationals are getting into this. I think that if we forced them to do their cultures in a confined environment, the additional cost, added to the research costs would make these technologies much less attractive to them. From there to say that the lobbying comes from there ....

France suspends cultivation of GMO corn
NOUVELOBS.COM | 12.01.2008 | 09: 58

The French government has activated the safeguard clause on Monsanto 810 corn, making it possible to temporarily ban the cultivation of this GMO authorized by Brussels. José Bové says he is "very satisfied" and stops his hunger strike which began on January 3.

(Reuters)
The French government announced on Friday 11 January the activation of the safeguard clause on Monsanto 810 corn, which will allow the cultivation of this GMO authorized by Brussels to be temporarily prohibited in France, pending a reassessment of its effects by the European Union. José Bové, who had been on a hunger strike since January 3 with fifteen other anti-GMO activists to obtain this decision, immediately announced that he was ending his action. "The government is initiating the adversarial procedure in order to file a safeguard clause on the cultivation of GMO corn MON 810 until the re-evaluation by the European authorities of the authorization to market this GMO," said Matignon in a press release.

"New scientific elements"

The Prime Minister's services specify that this decision is based on the conclusions of the prefiguration committee of the High Authority on GMOs, made Wednesday. This "reported new scientific evidence" and the "need for additional expertise on the long-term health and environmental effects" of this genetically modified corn, underlines Matignon. During the Grenelle de l'Environnement last October, Nicolas Sarkozy announced the freezing of this transgenic corn, the only one authorized for commercial cultivation at European level, pending the opinion of the High Authority on GMOs. But Bové and the ecologists called for a "real moratorium".

Plant biotechnology plan

On Tuesday, the Head of State declared himself ready to use this safeguard clause in the event of "serious doubts" about these cultures "until the European Commission resolves the problem", which is expected in the 'year. The next day, Jean-François Legrand, president of the prefiguration committee of the High Authority on GMOs, spoke of "serious doubts", an expression nevertheless contested by other members of the panel. Legrand cited a much larger dissemination than that evaluated in 1998 when Brussels authorized Mon810, he added that scientists had observed "resistance in secondary pests", which would limit the interest of this GMO maize variety. He finally cited effects on flora and fauna, stressing that many aspects still needed to be explored.

Bové stops his hunger strike

In its press release, the government said for its part that "the doubts about this GMO currently cultivated in France do not condemn the interest of this technology to meet food and environmental challenges". At the same time, he announced a plan for "unprecedented investment in plant biotechnology of 45 million euros", or, according to Matignon, "an eight-fold increase in current budgets". José Bové said he was "very satisfied" with the activation of the safeguard clause. "We have decided to stop the hunger strike and start to feed ourselves tomorrow at noon rue de la Banque (in Paris, Editor's note) and we are going to share a first vegetable broth together," he said on France Info. (With Reuters)

Glory to you Mr. José Bové.

Your fight, and that of the voluntary mowers, has FINALLY been recognized about the irreversible danger of GMOs.

I was saying that the attitude of these “enlightened” activists is exemplary (because they made inquiries, understood the danger, and not being bound by mercantile interests, giving of themselves, they launched into this media fight, despite the condemnations of the herd.)

They are the resistance fighters of modern times, and must be recognized as such.

----
When one thinks of the attitude of Bernard Acoyer, president of the UMP group to the assembly, who criticized this unscientific position of the observation committee, that a suspension decision was not taken in an emergency, simply because 'a minister was going to kiss a hunger striker ...
This man is supposed to be "responsible" ??? You just have to offer him to feed him GMOs, every day, in front of a bailiff. Will he always be of the same opinion? If not ? it is because he is in collusion with brigands, and because he is banished from political life.

The attitude of the FNSEA was more logical, by pushing, with Sarkozy, before this decision: If GMOs are dangerous in cultivation on French soil, we must ban GMO imports to feed our cattle!

Fully agree. Now that the decision is made, and in a good way, there is more than! ...

BRAVO!

This info deserves a full topic on its own! Gegyx I leave you the honor!

It just goes to show that the sarko government is not necessarily (only) the power of lobbies ... but let’s wait for the continuation, it may be hiding something else ... see the remark of the FNSEA on the import of edible GMO corn ...

Thank you, Christophe, but I see that you have made fairly comprehensive news on the subject.
On the OGM search engine, there are quite a few related subjects and contrasting opinions.
I wanted to post here, because it was the continuation of the fight of the Confédération paysanne, José Bové, and farmers who have common sense.
In this subject there are opinions which are close to my heart, and I wanted to complete the advancement of the struggle of his patriots.

(For the detailed subject, there are specialists :D )

I think about it now.
Michel Barnier, Minister of Agriculture, was against this safeguard clause in recent days! That is to say…

He was therefore in opposition to Jean-Louis Borloo, Minister of the Environment.

Like what, it depends on not much… Remember. When Juppé left this great flagship government ministry wanted by Nicolas Sarkozy: Barnier was a contender instead….
Lobby when you hold us….

Borloo is not going to make friends at the FNSEA.

But I do not feel it this measure. They are so powerful Monsanto + the FNSEA, will they not find a solution to have the decision reversed by the European Commission?

This will be the sequel to this fast-paced thriller ...

Sarko, said he had 3 choices:
-Do nothing
-The suspension, but both parties would have been dissatisfied
-The safeguard clause. "He couldn't do less to save the environment grenelle"!
This is to say his ecological conviction ...

But as this choice is made, despite the reluctance of his right-wing political supporters, he does not despair of making them change their minds.
He now says the "precautionary principle" is essential for him.
We will see on the sequel and other cases, if it is still his conviction (one day?)
------
22 ha planted in France. 000% of cultivated areas.
It was about time, it was getting exponential.
20 ha in the South-West, where the bandits are very unhappy.
They intend to continue cultivation, despite this clause.

There will be sport!
Now GMO reapers will no longer mow.

Fashion : Lol: These patriots will be vigilant, and will denounce the refractory to the competent authorities.
They will come to make the fair and film when the CRS come to draw up reports to the recalcitrant, and turn into destroyers of illegal plantations.

We won, we won, we won : Lol: : Lol: : Lol:

Now the question is “what will happen to convicted or convicted reapers?”.

I admit that when I saw the title "49 volunteer reapers relaxed! Victory !!!", I believed it.

I imagined that, for once, power had made sense.
That by recognizing the dangerousness of GMOs in the open fields, they had at the same time recognized the correctness of the fight of the reapers without whom this new study of MON810 would never have taken place (or perhaps within 30 years to celebrate the 30000 cancer due to this M ...).
In short, you gave me, in spite of yourself, a false joy.
