An electric in-wheel motor may be justified for some slow vehicles with large-diameter wheels. It's a bad idea for fast vehicles with standard wheels. Indeed, the in-wheel motor is subject to significant vibrations (because it's unsprung), and it degrades the tension...

Motors directly in the wheels for the electric R5 Turbo 3E. Increased energy efficiency!




Some drawbacks, but wheel motors on a regular car would be less prone to shaking and overheating!
