1 or 2 solar strings?

by d2taf » 13/09/19, 16:10

Hello. I want to know if it is possible to connect a single pair of conductors (+ and - coming out of a DC box) to the input of a SunnyBoy 21000TL inverter, knowing that the latter has two inputs, for two strings distinct. What are the possible problems? In advance, thank you very much.

Pfff thibr, uh we are good in PV too here huh! : Cheesy: : Evil:

I asked myself the same question a few months ago: I mounted 2,8 kWc on 10 panels on 1 string while I also have a dual MPPT.

It all depends on your situation: solar masks and placement of the panels.

If you have no or little mask then the best is to have the most voltage possible: so 1 string! This will produce earlier in the morning and later in the evening and fewer amps will go into the cables so less losses ...

I have peaks at 3.3 kW so I guess it's the right configuration : Shock: :)

My inverter starts to inject at 150V DC ... and takes up to 600V ... with 10 panels it works at 350 V about ...

A photo of your roof should help analyze better

ps: I did tests with small solar panels also and 2 panels in series always produce more than 2 panels in parallel ...

And a good knit woolen knit by hand rather than 1 or 2 strings?

I'm not a specialist, I was just reacting to "so 1 string! This will produce earlier in the morning and later in the evening"in relation to a parallel debate on DIY in PV inverters ..... But I'm not surprised that a thong produces earlier in the morning or later in the evening than a knitted wool panty.

In this regard, we are still waiting for the presentation of your installation, which you announced to us several weeks ago?

Yes.
If the panels have the same impact, this is the optimum. (if it's an 2100TL - not 21000TL)
If it is on two orientations or if there are shadows, to think knowing that it must always remain above the minimum voltage of the inverter.

it is necessary to have the precise model of inverter, many of the inverters TL of SMA are with independent strings (two independent MPPT) and it is interesting to increase the yield,

it is also necessary to have the exact model and assembly of the PV panels to know if it is compatible with the range of each MPPT.

In short, we can not answer your question like that ...

Thank you for the info.
The inverter is a 2100TL (1 only tracker mppt). The 8 panels are arranged in two strings, on the same slope (2 lines of 4). A ninth will be mounted later.

Characteristics of the panels:
Rated Power = 240
Open Circuit Voltage = 37,393
Tension mpp = 29,672
Short-circuit current = 8,69
Current mpp = 8,1
Typical Yield Module = 14,52
Surface Power Density = 145
Power Tolerance = 1000
Maximum System Voltage = 12

I hope these clarifications will help you. Thank you again for your help.

Ah yes I'll note this for the next few days ... now that I have exceeded the MWh injected :)
