Amorphous panel lifespan

by PVresistif » 20/11/23, 12:13

I read somewhere that amorphous panels would not last more than 10 years compared to 25 years for standard ones? Is it correct ?
And what about production without sun, what % power?

Hi, I just asked your question to bing : Wink:
The lifespan of an amorphous solar panel is limited to approximately **10 years**¹⁴⁶. Over the years, it loses efficiency and its performance is much lower compared to other solar panels⁴. Amorphous solar panels are made of amorphous silicon layered on top of glass or plastic, making them very light, thin and even bendable³. They have a power of between 30 and 70 peak watts (Wp) ⁷.

I'm going on this forum to get user reviews, it's more useful than a search engine (and less biased by advertising)

I am no longer sure that it is still relevant now for non-flexible panels.

Amorphous solar panels sometimes have a shorter lifespan, almost 10 years, compared to conventional models (25 years). When the sun is not out, these modules maintain their performance, but the power percentage depends on various factors, such as location, and may vary between models.

Hi Martine and welcome here...

It's a legend or it may have been true one day but it's not at all true today.

The most efficient solar panels, even in diffuse radiation, are currently mono-crystalline (around 25% efficiency)...

But if you have a study that proves the opposite, I would like to look at it...

I am still surprised to find nothing on performance without sunlight (in light)
is this a bluff? because the standard panels in the light (day and night in full moon) produce zero.
