Vaccine and blood donation

by ABC2019 » 06/09/21, 12:39

just out of curiosity, after reading this comment on a thread commenting on an article comparing vaccine immunity and immunity after infection

Just as blood donors are not ideal to measure seroprevalence (blood donors are very public-health minded, so surely more likely to be vaccinated), I wonder if voluntary testing in unvaccinated people is ideal to measure reinfection risk. My two cents on the preprint of the day.

which says that those who donate blood could be vaccinated more often ... it could be interesting to test, even if the sample will be very small.

ah apparently some regret the lack of sources, but I did not give them just because the topic has little to do with the article discussed, it was just an obiter, which could nevertheless have an impact on the results of the article by introducing a bias

The article is as follows (so he discusses the effectiveness of immunity from vaccines vs. infection, vs. new infection, and apparently he used a database from donated blood).

Most everyone has been vaccinated at least once in their life, so what is this thread for?

How do you do to distinguish contamination from infection? Can there be symptomatic contamination (etc) etc?

I am no longer allowed to donate blood because during the last three donations, I passed out. I weigh 50kg and the levy being fixed, it's too much for me!
