Olympic Games: amateur or professional athletes?

by Christophe » 13/08/08, 16:08

I had always heard (and therefore believed) that the Olympics were reserved for "amateur" athletes... it's pkoi we did not see the "stars" of football, tenis or basketball ...

But this year that does not seem the case at all ...

So is there something that has changed in the rules or I have always been wrong?

It does not date from this year, for example Tennis among others came back in 1988 with pro obviously.

Football, basketball, cycling and anyway pro in disguise have always participated they were "military", "customs" ... but more often in the training of their sports than in the work for which they were paid :|

The Federers and Nadals gain more by doing tournaments than going to participate in the Olympics ... And yet!

There is curiosity, a way of doing a BA for one's country, a bit of national pride, and yes, a bit of publicity too.

For years the USA did not shine in Olympian tennis.
There were never the top ranked players on the charts.
