AGPB - Debriding the bioethanol market: an imperative!
Issuer: AGPB: General Association of Wheat Producers and other Cereals
Theme: Economy | Sectors of activity | Energy

The price of crude oil above $ 65 per barrel and the prospect of persistently high prices widen the trade deficit, worsen purchasing power and ultimately negatively influence the level of employment.

Faced with these threats, many countries (USA, Brazil, Japan, China, India ...) are developing the direct incorporation of bioethanol into large-scale species. On the other hand, in France, the policy led by the national refining does not allow a similar development. It is still not possible to access the low-volatility gasoline essential for ethanol fuel dispensers. This situation blocks any investment in production of large volumes of bioethanol at competitive prices.

The country deprives itself of a reduction of its oil deficit and jobs on its territory. It does not benefit from the environmental benefits provided by this renewable fuel. While France has the largest European field of crops for bioethanol production, can the petrol industry be exempted from any environmental effort?

The seriousness of the problem was well perceived by the Parliament, since a motion for a resolution for the creation of a commission of inquiry on this subject was tabled in the National Assembly at the end of the last session.

Wheat producers therefore call on the Government to make the direct incorporation of bioethanol into gasoline by the method it deems most appropriate: - either the mandatory reduction of 10 points in the volatility of gasolines placed on the market French, which allows the addition of bioethanol by any distributor in accordance with the European standard on the quality of gasolines, - the mandatory incorporation of bioethanol in gasoline, or any other method with equivalent effects.

It is only on this condition that the government's ambition, repeatedly reaffirmed in favor of the simultaneous development of the biodiesel and bioethanol sectors, can be realized.
