Dynamo on wind turbine

by frederic24 » 10/09/07, 21:24

Hello
As part of a homemade wind turbine that drives a 22A dynamo, I am looking for the solution:
What to install easily between the dynamo and the battery to avoid any discharge of the battery?

Thank you for your advice

Diodes to avoid discharge would be the solution. As they only let the current flow in the charging direction and block it in the other direction.

I let my electronics friends develop with lots of information and diagrams ...

Thank you for this first level of response.

Could someone tell me more about this?

and which product on this technical basis can I find in the trade?

Hi Frédéric24

Dynamo is not enough to describe your generator
22A seems to be already an interesting current in any case, it is not a bicycle dynamo
Either you use an automotive type alternator, in this case you need a diode bridge to rectify the current and produce DC
This allows, among other things, to charge a battery (12 V?) And there is no current "up" to the alternator in case of shutdown.
Either you use a generator (synchronous motor reversed in some way) and in this case, it is necessary at least to place a diode on one of the two wires to avoid that the battery feeds the said generator and transforms it into motor

Good luck

For such currents, here is the kind of beast you need:

http://www.conrad.fr/webapp/wcs/stores/ ... y_rn=18973

that said: these charge currents seem to me to be very high:
therefore, I would eventually provide a 40 amp fuse to protect the diode and the alternator.
What are the characteristics of your alternator and the capacity of the batteries?
