Hi there. What maximum current can a 4mm2 solar panel cable support over a length of 15 meters? To know if I can connect two or three 12v 150w panels in parallel or plan bigger.

Re: What amperage in a solar panel cable?
Not far from 40 A, it takes 8 mm². It is always in our interest to put the batteries as close as possible. In 230 V, at this power, 1 mm² is enough.darwenn wrote:Hi there. Re: What amperage in a solar panel cable?
well done you can go up to 30A-40A. It's not ideal, you will have voltage losses on the line.
150W under 12V is 12,5A, you could put 3 in parallel maximum.
It is generally considered that a good dimensioning is 5A/mm² of copper, and that beyond 10A/mm², the temperature rises become critical.

be careful not to leave your cable wound in the form of a coil, heating can melt the plastic

Re: What amperage in a solar panel cable?
On a 100m cable, in 6mm2, in DC, DC cable, can pass in 600V, not far from 10 W, it seems to me, makes me find the site, and you put, inside inverter and drums.

Re: What amperage in a solar panel cable?
Put your panels in series!
And work in "36 V" rather than 12 V on the rest of the chain!
I put "36V" because it can be more... the more volts, the better...

Re: What amperage in a solar panel cable?
yes but does it have the inverter that accepts 36V?
Lowcost undulating chinoiseries are 12V or 24V in general.

Re: What amperage in a solar panel cable?
Everything exists: 12, 24, 36, 48 and 96V. I even have variables!
A higher voltage inverter will cost him less than cables...and it will work much better on annual production!
I did some tests: 2 panels in series always produce more than in parallel...and not just a little, it was around +40%...
Series = Higher voltage on the whole line = less losses per W (cable and component) and faster start-up...
