Thermal Energy Seas, an energy of unknown future!

Renewable energies except solar electric or thermal (seeforums dedicated below): wind turbines, energy from the sea, hydraulic and hydroelectricity, biomass, biogas, deep geothermal energy ...

there is a thermal fluid (ammonia) between the evaporator and the condenser top to the bottom

it's boring because it reduces the diameter of the pipes between the top and bottom

was the era of georges claude cold bottom water warmed in the pipe length before arriving at the top

if the pipe is too large heat loss ... if the pipe is too small too much loss of power for passing the flow

with ammonia or other thermal fluid, much less allow large pipes without compromise solution

World at the Meeting: a SWAC project 40 cold MW

Posted on May 25 2015 by Eric Saudemont

Operational in 2017, the project of Sea Water Air Conditioning (SWAC) will be the first offshore free cooling system - that is to say with a direct use of cold energy of the ocean - on the scale of an urban area. It aims to produce well over 75% savings on the electrical system of the island in relation to the use of traditional chillers. Eric Bassac, head of the project to the international management of the Energy Services business Engie (formerly GDF Suez), we detail the many technical challenges.

..............

The project in figures

envisaged beginning of work mid-2015
commissioning in the first half 2017 customers
151 million for the work, including 58% of public aid
50 powered sites
over 75% energy savings on the electrical system of the island vs. the use of traditional chillers
620 000 tons of CO2 saved over 24 years (corresponding to more than 16 000 car park)
6 km offshore pipeline with an intake in m 1100
23 km of pipes for the urban network
concessionaire: Climabyss, owned by Engie (79,5%), Caisse des Dépôts (12,5%) and Climespace (8%).

in March 2016 we had this:

In Reunion, the project of marine urban air conditioning takes water

Published 23 / 03 / 2016

The hon. Member of the meeting has alerted the Minister of the Environment about the uncertainties surrounding the urban water cooling project planned for Saint-Denis, north of the island. The subsidiary of Engie, in charge of the works, delayed the start of the work for reasons that did not convince Ségolène Royal.

Ségolène Royal asked the energy specialist Engie (ex-GDF Suez) to provide him with explanations on the postponement of the construction of the urban seawater air conditioning system in Saint-Denis de la Réunion. Alerted by Huguette Bello, MP for the island, the minister assured that she "intended to put this company in front of its responsibilities". She continued: "And if this is not the case, we will give this market to another company which will have the capacity to carry out this project, which will be a great world first in the Overseas Territories, and which will be highly observed by all the island states ".

Still, everything seemed to be going well. The Reunionese deputy told AFP that it is an "ambitious and unparalleled project intended for the air conditioning of large tertiary buildings in the north of the island". She stresses that "the studies were carried out and public funding acquired". Significant funds, since 90 M € would be provided by the State out of the 150 M € of necessary investments. To these elements, Ségolène Royal replied: "I agree with your astonishment. I asked Engie for explanations on the statements concerning his withdrawal. As I speak to you, I have no clear explanations". Scheduled to start at the end of 2015, the work had not yet started in March 2016. "The start of the work was postponed at the request of the Engie subsidiary, to which the project was delegated ( …) Several reasons have been mentioned [including] the fall of the barrel of oil which would call into question the profitability of the project ", deplores the elected representative of Réunion. Contacted by Batiactu, a spokesperson for Engie explained to us that discussions are underway with the local authorities and the government but that no further communication would be made on the file, which is still not completed.

Pfff I want to say:

"Not assiz piss off my son" ...

With reference to, of course ...

Hold an ad in Arabic subtitled in France ... which passed very well at the time, seems incompatible with the European society 2017 ... and yes we too regressed!

Yes bof... It doesn't seem to take off, even for "simple" SWAC type applications.
Known examples of application in countries a little more exotic than the DROMs?
