Positive saliva self-test after X hours? What does this mean?

by Christophe » 02/02/22, 09:44

Faced with the resurgence of covid cases at my son's school (5/11 of the boys present...) I did a saliva self-test yesterday for him and for me...

We each did our own test, under the same conditions.

Mine remained negative but for my son's...it appeared positive but only after 5 or 6 hours...so I would like to know what this means? The leaflet says not to read the test after 20 minutes but does not say anything about positivity after X hours...

Result after 15 minutes:

Why would his have been positive after 5 a.m. and not mine?

To conclude:
The result after 15 minutes was negative.
The result after 3 hours was negative (at that time, we put in the test storage pocket)

The result after 5 or 6 hours was positive...I saw it when I went to bed...

The pharmacist says it's negative but advised me to do one more...which he's going to do this morning (he's at his mother's..

Yes, acidity is positive...but that doesn't answer my question: why did his end up being positive and mine didn't? The 2 were stored in exactly the same conditions (less than 1m apart...)

Thank you Janic, that really helps the debate...
so I'm moving forward: test your salivary Ph and his according to what everyone has absorbed. or the test is worthless as usual.

Yes, it's probably linked to this kind of consideration...we nevertheless followed the instruction not to eat or drink anything 15 min before...and the instructions say that the test is valid after 15 min and is no longer valid after 20 minutes...There is therefore a window of 5 min.

ps: the intestines are basic! : Lol:
