London in talks with Westinghouse over new nuclear power plant project, Times says

REUTERS • 24 / 09 / 2021

Britain is in talks with the US group Westinghouse for the construction of a new nuclear power plant on the island of Anglesey, Wales, The Times reported on Friday.

This multibillion-pound project supported by the British government would be added to the Hinkley Point C construction site in the south-west of England and to the new reactor project at Sizewell in Suffolk (east), led by EDF.

The new Wylfa plant in Anglesey would be able to supply electricity to more than six million homes and would be operational by the mid-2030s, according to the Times.

the latest joint report from the Nuclear Energy Agency and the International Atomic Energy Agency has just fallen and answers the question of the resource to ensure the energy transition: https://www.oecd-nea.org/upload/docs/ap ... 0__web.pdf

Page 72, the answer is clear
Sufficient uranium resources have been identified to support even the most aggressive scenarios of nuclear generation capacity growth. However, the majority of this uranium in earth cannot be brought to market without improving market conditions. Unattractive market conditions also slow down investment in uranium exploration, which in turn may affect the delineation of additional resources identified in the short term.

Nuclear: "We are going to relaunch the creation of reactors", reveals Emmanuel Macron

The President of the Republic has revealed that he wants to put in place a new plan for the development of nuclear power in France in the coming years. A theme that should prevail in the next presidential campaign.

E.Macron finally learned about physics ... : roll:

PS: I should have bet I had announced it 2 years in advance! : Lol:

Macron announces the creation of "new generation" EPR plants. That is. But what is this new generation? The generation after Superphenix (which never worked), that is to say the one today that we still can not get to work? Or is it a "new new" generation? With nuclear, we get lost a bit ... and with Macron, a lot. : Mrgreen:

In fact this news is very symptomatic of the degree of amateurism of our government. The candidate Macron of 2017 was committed in the continuity of Holland to reduce the share of nuclear power to 50%.
Faced with the energy crisis (announced since the end of the 90s!) President Macron of 2021 discovers that we cannot operate this reduction! It's scary because we are on the reasoning of a college student!
For the rest when it comes to "new reactors" we must understand EPR, because there are no new technologies marketable in our near future.
MSFR type reactors (liquid fission) will not be ready before 2035 at best ...
Are you ready for the crisis? : Lol:

NB: Our president has also announced "full employment", and the abolition of aid for the unmotivated unemployed (!).
The latter apparently has not yet understood that we are now engaged in a two-beat waltz:1) high priced energy = slower growth= unemployment =2) fall in the price of energy = revival of growth= increase in energy prices = slowdown in growth etc ... etc ... i.e. an economy in stop and go for at least 15 years.
This condemns the economy to lyrical flights punctuated by a disillusioning tomorrow. Workers are therefore quickly condemned to flexibility (the smoker flexi-security neo-liberal) and precariousness.
I can't wait to hear the next president (Macron?) In 3 years explaining the current crisis ... : roll:

Didn't I understand that this announcement called into question a target of +/- 50% of nuclear production by 2035?

It is true that with no planned plant closures and the creation of 6 EPRs, the nuclear share can only decrease.

We are talking about 2035, dear friend ..... By then, things will happen. Maybe you even replaced your gas car with an electric car?
