From November 2016, around twenty American officials, mostly diplomats stationed in Havana, began to complain of strange pains. Symptoms include the perception of a loud noise, ear pain, intense pressure or vibration of the head, dizziness, visual problems and cognitive difficulties.

During the press briefing on May 7, White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki replied to a reporter who asked her for details on cases of CIA officers, military personnel and officials working in Washington: "We take these cases very seriously. Different government agencies are working on the subject. At this time, we do not know the cause of these incidents, the vast majority of which have occurred abroad."

And when the journalist asks him how many cases have been recorded on American soil, Jen Psaki kicks in with this very useful formula: "I have no more details". But this therefore confirms that there are indeed cases on American soil. In December 2020, at the request of the State Department (the US Department of Foreign Affairs), the National Academy of Sciences published a report in which it explains that it considered various hypotheses such as attacks by a directed energy weapon of pulsed radiofrequency but also chemical exposures or even infectious diseases such as the Zika virus, transmitted by mosquitoes and which, according to the Institut Pasteur, can cause fever, headaches, fatigue, muscle and joint pain.

But among all these hypotheses, the most plausible adopted by the committee of about twenty different specialists in hearing or neurological diseases is that of directed and pulsed radiofrequency energy. According to a source cited by CNN, a former US official who was briefed on the case says investigators have still not fully ruled out the possibility that the symptoms were caused by a natural phenomenon rather than a weapon. But the investigation continues. And it won't stop until the mystery is solved.

This was confirmed in a statement by US senators Mark Warner and Marco Rubio, respectively chairman and vice-chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee. We can read that "this tendency to attack our fellow citizens in the service of our government seems to be increasing". The two senators give the impression that they have no doubts that it is indeed a weapon. "We welcome the CIA Director's renewed attention to these attacks," they write. "Our commission will continue to work with him, and the rest of the intelligence community, to better understand the technology behind the weapon responsible for these attacks."

They also promise medical and financial support to the victims of these attacks, some of whom suffer from traumatic brain injuries.
