AH ah ah the coronavirus really contaminates all subjects!

Raymond if you say THE covid-19 it's like saying THE flu... I know that errors are frequent but it is not because they are so wrong that they are right as the other said!

Covid-19 is the disease.

Covid-19 I believe it means Co (rona) vi (rus) d (isease) -2019

The virus is THE Sars-Cov2.

Obamot wrote:By the way, should we say:

- “LE covid-19 "

ou

- “LA covid-19 "

Here is an article which does not really decide, but which takes up all the arguments for the application of the masculine VS the feminine.

In English ... well, there is no gender on the words (or rarely) so it is normal that they have trouble deciding ... : Cheesy:

And since Covid is an English abbreviation, we could tolerate LE or LA ... so I suggest LI Covid or LO Covid! Who is for? : Cheesy: : Cheesy:

Well then nothing understood, but as long as you do you can say “the” covid-19 :D :D :D

: Arrowd: you do it on purpose eh ( : Cheesy: ) Christopher : Arrowd:
Remundo wrote:I asked myself the question several times, indeed,

in fact "COVID19" designates both THE virus and the influenza / disease, in general without being able to distinguish the meaning in the sentence.

After reading the articles, the feminine is more rarely used.

my personal rule is to put LE Covid-19 if I am thinking of the virus and LA Covid-19 if I am talking about the disease.

Good but in general it does not pose any problem of comprehension or ambiguity. Of which act. :)

We do not say :

I have "the" common cold. : Cheesy:

Coronavirus for => the common cold => co + vi main phrase => correct use in the masculine (my reasoning)

The translation “D” / disease in “illness” is questionable in terms of proxemics / semantics and by the fact that there is no gender in English, as already said.

But I am again very tempted to use the feminine in certain cases, “intoxicated” that I am by your perfectly logical explanation which varies the central syntagm, thank you to the secretary of the French Academy for having ruined the mess : Mrgreen:

Inclusive writing discriminates against the visually impaired because the added signs (.ées, for example) disrupt the text recognition software responsible for transcribing them orally ...
