Other times (not so distant), other customs ... the medicinal cigarette

How to stay healthy and prevent risks and consequences on your health and public health. occupational disease, industrial risks (asbestos, air pollution, electromagnetic waves ...), company risk (workplace stress, overuse of drugs ...) and individual (tobacco, alcohol ...).

Other times (not so distant), other customs ... the medicinal cigarette

by Christophe » 11/07/20, 12:57

Even at the end of the 70s, it was advised to send cigarette smoke to asthmatic children or to smoke to reduce the risk of emphysema ... it was just 40 years ago ...

There are a lot of "baba-cools" who found themselves in the emergency room, at the cops, who became barges, or half blind (for a while) or died from having made infusions with these Louis Legras cigarettes. Datura is an ultra-potent hallucinogen and delirogen whose "recreational" dose is close to the lethal dose. : Cheesy:

The content of total alkaloids12 varies between 0,2 and 0,5% including a third of scopolamine and the remaining two thirds of hyoscyamine and atropine. There is roughly twice as much hyoscyamine as scopolamine in stramoine while there is 20 times more in belladonna. Atropine is formed by racemization from hyoscyamine during the extraction process.
Properties

The main tropanic alkaloids of stramonium are hyoscyamine and scopolamine. Hyoscyamine has parasympathicolytic effects (that is to say which oppose the action of the parasympathetic nervous system) resulting in tachycardia, mydriasis, a decrease in secretions (saliva, sweat) and a slowing of the intestinal transit. Scopolamine is also a parasympathicolytic causing in addition intense delusional hallucinations, amnesia (anterograde lacunar amnesia) and loss of consciousness.

The anticholinergic activity of the plant's alkaloids produces a hallucinatory delirium of several hours14.

The stramoine is very poisonous, it is the most toxic plant of all Solanaceae [ref. desired], which makes it potentially dangerous even for shamanic use.

It was from Datura stramoine that the German chemist Albert Ladenburg in 1881 isolated scopolamine14.

Voluntary poisoning

The frequency of voluntary poisoning is not at all negligible. For example, 14 cases were recorded in hospitals in Rennes and Brest between 1974 and 1989, and in Poitiers between 1990 and 1992, 10 cases were collected17.

The datura is mostly absorbed as an infusion, more rarely it is smoked as a joint.

The use in a recreational setting remains anecdotal and often limited to an isolated and short-lived experiment due to the difficulty of management of the product, unpleasant side effects (severe dryness of the mucous membranes, amnesia, mental confusion and impression of persistent strangeness several days after taking), and risk of accidents. These risks of accidents (intoxication) are linked to the difficulty in determining the desired dose because the limit between the hallucinogenic dose and an overdose is very narrow and linked to the latent period between absorption and the appearance of effects which can induce users to overdose18.

Houlà so it's downright worse than I thought : Cheesy: : Cheesy: : Cheesy:

I did not take the time to analyze the composition ... the toxicity of the smoke seemed to me "sufficient" ...

In the same genre but less "immediately dangerous", we had the paregoric elixir, stuffed with opium (50%) and over the counter ...

Aconite: The toxic principles of this plant (as well as of all other Aconites, because there are at least thirty species) are alkaloids, napelonine, and aconitine. For an adult, the lethal dose of purified aconitine is 3 to 6 milligrams5. The effect of this poison is respiratory paralysis. It all starts with colic and vomiting, then breathing difficulties, a heart attack, and sometimes death.
