France: trapping selenium?

by Dearcham » 03/02/04, 13:59

Researchers at CEA Cadarache have just determined the structure of an enzyme, nitrate reductase, capable of trapping selenium. They are now considering creating bacteria that express this protein and using them to clean up contaminated water and soil. Indeed, selenium is toxic at certain doses. However, it is found in the environment because it is involved in many industrial activities.
