Hello
I land on the forum following the canvassing of an easypell boiler representative is I would like your opinion on:
1: the consumption of pellets for a 12 kw boiler with hot water production (house with 1 floor but in principle I only heat the ground floor) is around 70 m2. the commercial announces me 2t but I'm skeptical.
I am over 70 years old and I would not like to embark on an adventure
Thank you for your reply

Re: Pellet consumption
Hi and welcome here
Announcing 2T like that means absolutely nothing! You have to base yourself on something ...
2T is, for example, the equivalent of 1000L of fuel oil or 1000 m3 of gas ... Is that your consumption?
I think that we must add 10 to 15% for the pellets in the equivalence in the overall yields are slightly less good (losses of pellets not burned during start-ups, moisture uptake during storage, quality of the pellets ... ) ...
Here are 2 simple methods to estimate your (future) pellet consumption: https://www.econologie.com/calcul-estim ... n-pellets/

It seems to me little (around 9MWh PCI), but it all depends on the characteristics of your house, where you are and your lifestyle.
Just to compare, how hot are you today and how much is your consumption? It may not give the answer, but it may indicate a trend.

Hello
as an indication in December 3252 kw of city gas and in January 2973 kw February 2437 kw
here is if that can give an idea
Thank you for your answer

Re: Pellet consumption
Yes, that gives an idea ... You have an average consumption over not very cold winter months of 2900 kWh ...
If we linearize roughly over a year we can get the figure 2900 * 12 * 0.5 assuming that you consume 4 times less in the summer months ... and half less in the spring / fall. So you have a consumption of 17 kWh or the equivalent of 400 kg of pellets ... at 3900 kWh / kg ...
Change commercial!
The best is to base yourself on an annual regularization invoice .... you must know one that is dragging right?

Or almost 9000 kWh only on December to February?
Well your seller just doesn't care about your age .... with his 2t per year! Because 2t of pellets is roughly 9000kWh!
By the way, but that's a personal opinion, I don't know your motivations for eventually switching to pellets. But if you're connected to town gas, I don't think it's over 70 years old that you should consider switching to pellets ... You still have to carry them around if they are in a bag, take out the ashes, maintenance more necessary and expensive than gas, certainly more "capricious" operation ...
Now do what you want!

That's right!
I just estimated the double (4 Tons) with the rule of 1 / 2-1 / 4 ... Do not look I just invented it!
1/2 winter consumption between seasons
1/4 in summer (DHW, nights, rain ...)
See what his adjustment bill actually says!

It is indeed mysterious! It’s 3/4. Where does the remaining quarter go?

Nothing surprises me anymore ..; you go to the bistro, you ask for a half, and we give you a quarter ... so ??? we will not get angry for so little!

Re: Pellet consumption
Roh it's not a minus between the 2 ... it's an approximate method of annual estimate that we only know the consumption of a period ...
If we assume the consumption of a winter month at 1 then we assume that of summer at 1/4 and those of spring and autumn at 1/2 ... it works in all directions ... I think that the accuracy is around 70-80% ....
1/2 AND 1/4 method if you prefer
