The index used (Humidex) has no dimension.Christophe wrote:A big heat wave is coming for next week: up to 48 ° C felt in the North
Its values "resemble" the temperature range in ° C, but you cannot write "48 ° C felt ".
It is not because all journalists are wrong that they are right ...

Ah yes but it's BFMTV ... so they apologize for their lack of precision
The article you are quoting does not contradict these figures.
If a Hammam (= 100% RH) does not exceed 45 ° C and a dry sauna can go up to 90 ° C then humidity is fundamental in the transmission of heat by air ...
At 90 ° C and 100% RH I think it can even be lethal ...
It is quite possible to put your hand in an oven at 160 ° C for a few tens of seconds and without any burning ... But do not try in water at "only" 80 ° C ... it would be enough seconds to burn you to the 2nd degree!

I find your formulation curious, even if I agree on the substance ...
Moist heat prevents thermal regulation of the body by making the phenomenon of perspiration ineffective. I know this aspect well from having worked in greenhouses: repair of the sprinkler / cooling system in the open air => maximum sequences of 5 minutes * of intervention on pain of fatal hyperthermia ...
For the difference between the behavior of air and water, it is indeed a simple question of conductivity ...
* This does not mean, of course, that at 6 minutes I would have fallen like a flytoxed fly, but you need a safety margin because "heat stroke" is brutal ...

I think we talk a lot about the effects of the heat wave on the elderly (this is normal ...) but not enough on the workers, but farmers and construction workers are also particularly concerned by preventive measures vis-à-vis the effects of the heat wave: http://www.officiel-prevention.com/sant ... dossid=192
