That said, if there is no disruptive technology that does not emit CO2 (and which dispenses with dry minerals from hazardous waste) for the power supply of trams, why not bring the horses out? There's a lot of space in front of the trams ...

the future of the sailing navy is evident! but no imitation of an old boat ... rather new boat with current technology ... not necessarily a single sail, but also a kite, like giant kite surfing

can be even larger than kite: large glider with cable that pulls the boat ... and can even pull it when the boat wants to go upwind: the kite or glider describes circles above the boat ... pulling the cable to the maximum when it is facing the wind, and losing altitude when it is tailwind ... the winch in the boat recovers energy to turn the propeller of the boat

this way of making energy with a glider which turns in circles makes an intermittent energy but does not matter! enough to move a boat that has great inertia

same rear wind a simple kite which pulls is not the most effective: in rear wind the kite can continue to make circles to give energy to a winch and to advance the boat faster than by simply drawing

Paris: tourist buses also switch to electric

02 April 2018

Image

The RATP has launched the first of its Open Tour Paris buses that run on electric. The entire fleet is to be converted to clean energy in 2025.
Anne Hidalgo tested it by taking a short tour of the Champs-Elysées with Catherine Guillouard, CEO of RATP. The first 100% electric tourist bus was inaugurated this Thursday in Paris. You can find this beautiful blue-white-red vehicle on two floors, "pleasant, silent, comfortable" according to Anne Hidalgo, on one of the 4 circuits of Open Tour Paris, towards Montmartre-Grands Boulevards, Bastille-Notre Dame, Saint-Germain-Montparnasse or Eiffel Tower Champs Elysées. It is the first Open Tour Paris bus, a RATP subsidiary, to switch to electric. The entire fleet, made up of 38 vehicles, will be converted to electric by 2025.

Anne Hidalgo will be jealous:

Hanover will only use electric buses in the city center

Bernard DEBOYSER May 15, 2018

In 4 years, all the buses running in downtown Hanover will be electric.

The municipality of Hanover recently decided to electrify the 6 bus lines running through its city center. The purchase of the first 50 electric buses is already planned.

Image

The main reason for the decision by the capital of Lower Saxony is excessive air pollution. This metropolis, which has more than a million inhabitants, is threatened with a lawsuit for exceeding the concentration limits of nitrogen dioxide. The city has therefore put together a plan to improve air quality, in which public transport has an important role to play. According to the company operating public transport in Hanover, the use of electric buses would save 5,7 tonnes of nitrogen oxides, 3.813 tonnes of carbon dioxide and 0,14 tonnes of fine particles annually.

The complete conversion of the bus fleet to electricity should be completed by 2022.

Silently, Flixbus does better than rail

Sun 28/10/2018 - The future belongs to him.

Electric coach in Germany
We often oppose the diesel coach to the electric train, and we concluded that the train was more ecological, but little by little, the electric coach is digging its nest. The operator Flixbus had put into service a regular line between Amiens and Paris 6 months ago (already 76 km traveled), and here it is today launching a Frankfurt-Mannheim line. In Germany, therefore. A rather short route, barely 000 km (the line makes a detour via Heidelberg), with several stops, and which will make 100 daily rotations.

[In pictures] In London, RATP Dev plugs BYD electric buses

Olivier Cognasse Factory New the 16 / 11 / 2018

RATP Dev inaugurated Thursday November 15 the electrical bus depot of Shepherd's Bush. A first for the French operator who operates about 40 BYD electric buses in the British capital.

The fifth largest bus operator out of fifteen in London, RATP Dev is a tenant or owner of ten depots and, above all, it operates 1 258 bus for the organizing authority, TFL (Transport for London) on the 8 700 that circulate in the city. A configuration that could resemble that of Greater Paris from 2025, when the bus lines will be put in competition.

Thursday November 15, in West London, the first deposit to dispose of electric terminals was inaugurated. The Shepherd's Bush site was equipped between June and September and the first electric bus hit the road on October 1er. Today, 36 electric buses for the lines C1 and 70 are therefore exploited by the French carrier on the 136 which circulate in London, to which must be added the four which roll in Hounslow, in the southwest of the city. A good ratio when we know that RATP Dev only realizes 12% market share, far enough from the British leader Go Ahead (24%). However, the UK is RATP Dev's second largest market (322 million) and there is no question of neglecting it.

Image

An alliance between BYD and Alexander Dennis

The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan (Labor Party) has pledged to develop a low emission zone in the center of the capital. But the goal for clean buses is later than in Paris, where the fleet must be converted by 2025 (electric, biogas and some hybrids). In London, the target is 2037 and the British seem to be betting heavily on hydrogen. Even "if TFL is considering an acceleration towards clean buses", specifies Laurence Battle, president of the management board of RATP Dev. London has set a target of zero emissions by 2050 and 80% of walking, cycling and public transport by 2041.

RATP Dev chose the British Alexander Dennis Limited (ADL) and the Chinese BYD to provide the buses and install the charging units. The buses produced in China arrive in parts on the British Isles and are assembled in Scotland. They can ride 200 kilometers. In general, they drive eight hours and return with 30 or 40% of their load. Four hours of charging time is enough to put the batteries back to 100%.

No doubt that when the first major Parisian tender will be known - 400 million and about a thousand buses - the name of BYD will come back to worry the European manufacturers.

It's a very compelling statement!
Is this not a disguised advertising item?
It seems difficult to compare an electric train with unlimited autonomy with a battery-powered coach hardly capable of exceeding 150km ...
Mash on the coach it says Greenpeace energy! : Lol:

Mercedes eCitaro electric bus voted bus of the year 2019 in Spain

Posted on 13/02/2019 by Philippe Schwoerer

Image

Presented for the first time last fall at the IAA German trade fair for commercial and industrial vehicles in Hanover (Germany), the Mercedes eCitaro electric bus saw its first copies delivered and put into service from November 2018, starting with the city of Hamburg. There, 20 units, in the course of delivery, were ordered by Hamburger Hochbahn AG, the company organizing transport on the territory. Equipped with a modular battery, the first copy delivered has a capacity of 243 kWh distributed in 15 modules of 12 cells installed on the roof. Via a Combo 2 connector, charging, possible up to a power of 150 kW, is carried out at night at the depot.

MADE IN GERMANY

ECitaro have also been put into service by Rhein-Neckar-Verkehr GmbH, serving the historic city center of Heidelberg and operating on 2 lines in Mannheim. According to Mercedes, the eCitaro "is the first fully electric city bus developed and manufactured in Germany", precisely in the factory located in Mannheim. Many of its equipment have been adapted to electric propulsion in order to reduce their energy consumption and maximize autonomy. Thus with the heating system of the passenger compartment which relies on a heat pump, but also for the lighting, inside as outside, which uses Led technology.

UNDER THE SPANISH SUN

Before marketing, the Mercedes eCitaro was tested by temperatures below -15 ° C on the Arctic Circle, and above 30 ° C under the Spanish sun. Although innovative in many ways, and presented with an exterior design and interior decoration that are specific to it, this electric bus is based on the best-seller Citaro from Mercedes, already distributed in more than 50.000 copies. Designed to facilitate maintenance, its bodywork is nevertheless inspired by the German manufacturer's “Bus of the future” vision.

150-250 KM OF AUTONOMY

The current pack endows the eCitaro with a range of between 150 and 250 kilometers under real conditions of use. Mercedes has announced several developments, including a new generation of lithium-ion batteries, but also a version with LMP cells from Bolloré, charging by pantograph, and electric versions with hydrogen cells.

Alstom sells its first Aptis electric buses to the Eurométropole de Strasbourg

Didier Bonnet on 08/03/2019

Alstom will deliver 12 Aptis electric buses to the Compagnie des transports strasbourgeois (CTS). The very first order for this new Alstom model.

Image
Alstom's first electric buses, the Aptis, will equip a new line between the Strasbourg TGV station and the European district. 12 vehicles will be acquired by the Strasbourg Transport Company (CTS), the SPL, in charge of transport in the Strasbourg Eurometropolis (EMS).

This is the first order for this bus for the French group. The amount of the contract is not communicated, but sources close to the file suggest a cost per device of around half a million euros, about double a diesel bus. The advantages of Aptis lie in its potentially longer lifespan than internal combustion engines, the total absence of CO2 and other fine particles emissions, as well as less expensive maintenance.

For the EMS, the order has symbolic value, since this electric bus is assembled in Alsace, between the site located on its territory in Hangenbieten - formerly NTL - where it was designed and the group's other factory, in Reichshoffen . Aptis is a hybrid between a tram and a "classic" bus, with an integral low floor, a maximum capacity of 95 passengers, an above-average glazed area and four-wheel steering, offering 25% better maneuverability than buses. This feature makes it possible to reduce the footprint reserved for public transport at stops.

A promotional showcase

Responsible for transporting passengers between Strasbourg station, the Archipel-Wacken business district and the European institutions - Parliament, Council of Europe, Court of Human Rights and around fifty other structures - the Aptis offer Alstom a leading promotional showcase.

For the moment, the French city bus market remains limited to around 150 vehicles in circulation or on order. The group specializing in rail transport insists on its evolution towards a mobility offer made in France and on tires. Buses acquired by CTS have a range of 200 km and will be recharged overnight, at the depot. About 40 km of tests have been covered by Aptis in several French cities, including Paris, since January 000.

The Hangenbieten site (Bas-Rhin) - formerly NTL, 192 employees - will start serial production of Aptis in the third quarter of 2019, a sign of Alstom's confidence in this product, according to Jean-Baptiste Eyméoud, president of Alstom France. According to Alain Fontanel, first deputy mayor and president of the CTS, the new line will be operational "before the end of the year".

RATP to order up to 800 electric buses from Alstom, Bolloré and HeuliezBus

Simon Chodorge Usine Nouvelle on 09/04/2019

On April 9, RATP awarded an order for electric buses of up to 400 million euros to three French manufacturers: Alstom, Bolloré and HeuliezBus. The first deliveries are expected in 2020 for a contract of up to 800 electric buses. Ultimately, the operator wants to convert its entire Ile-de-France fleet to clean energy.

Tuesday, April 9, the RATP announced the allocation of an order for 200 electric buses, with an option on 600 additional. The contract was awarded to three French manufacturers - Alstom, Bolloré and HeuliezBus - following a European call for tenders financed by Île-de-France Mobilités. The maximum amount of the contract is estimated at 400 million euros for all 800 buses.

First deliveries in 2020.

The order relates to standard electric buses with a length of 12 meters. More specifically, it will be Alstom's Aptis buses and Bolloré Bluebuses which are already deployed on the Ile-de-France network. The model has not yet been indicated for HeuliezBus.

Each order for the three manufacturers covers a period of two years and a maximum amount of 133 million euros. The first deliveries will be staggered between the end of 2020 and 2022.

RATP aims for a 100% clean fleet of buses over time

These contracts are part of the RATP bus fleet renewal strategy. Ultimately, the transport operator wants a fleet that is 100% “clean” in Île-de-France. In 2025, the company thus wishes to have two thirds of electric bus centers and one third of bus centers running on biogas.

To date, out of a fleet of 4700 buses, the company has 950 hybrid buses, 83 100% electric buses and 140 buses running on biogas. "A new consultation for the massive purchase of electric buses should quickly be launched in order to continue the rapid conversion of the bus fleet in Île-de-France," the operator said in a statement.
