by Christophe » 27/10/06, 10:30

500 pages to understand changes in the environment and their consequences. "The environment in France" is published every 4 years. The 2006 edition presents environmental issues in all their complexity and diversity. It presents the pressures on the environment, the state of environments and territories, the impacts on society and the responses provided by it and the public authorities.

The environment in France, 2006 edition, takes stock of the environment in France and its evolution, using the most recent data and information available. It is an opportunity to take stock of the progress or degradation observed over the past several decades and to highlight the emergence of new environmental problems.

This report provides all analyzes covering all areas of the environment. The state of natural environments and territories is examined through major changes in our society and the pressures of economic activities and households. It also discusses the impacts on biodiversity, climate and people. Finally, it presents the actions of citizens, businesses and public stakeholders to minimize impacts on the environment and take into account the dimensions of sustainable development.

At the beginning of the twenty-first century, the environment is a strong concern for society and occupies a growing place in the political debate and the media. Global warming, the scarcity of certain non-renewable resources and the erosion of biodiversity call for responses from all stakeholders to safeguard the planet's equilibrium for future generations. After the mobilization of economic agents, the challenge today is to integrate the environment to individual behaviors, particularly through better information to consumers.

With the adoption of the Charter for the Environment, the French Constitution now says the values of sustainable development. It recognizes the right of everyone to live in a balanced environment and the duty to take part in its preservation and improvement.

This collective work has the ambition to enable the reader to understand the complexity of environmental problems and help him to form an opinion and rules of action. Published every four years, it meets international and national obligations on public access to environmental information.
