Solar thermal house for swimming pool: overheating?

by mat368 » 18/07/17, 21:57

Hi everybody

I recently made a homemade solar panel system to heat my pool:
- 2 frames with 50 m of black irrigation hose
- submerged pump in the pool

Tonight I start the installation and the, leaks in the frames in the middle. I suspect the overheating of the irrigation pipes with the water that was in it ...
Has this ever happened to someone?

Thank you in advance for your feedback,
A+

Hello,

You say you started the pump in the evening, if your panel remained in the sun full of water and without circulation, it is logical that it overheated.

You have to run the pump when it is sunny, and possibly cover your sensors when it is hot enough.

do you think the water has turned into water vapor and damage the hose?
I also had air problems at the high point, do you think an automatic air vent could solve these 2 problems?

Thank you in advance,

Hello,
The automatic air vent will remove air, not pressure.
I don't know anything about these systems, but a safety group like water heaters is needed for overpressure problems.
Afterwards, the irrigation pipes are only intended for hot water and even less in a PV without water circulation.

You should also know the volume of the pool, the power of the pump, the diameter of the hose, etc.

Otherwise, with an open circuit in the pool, no pressure (unless it boils in the middle), if the pump is not powerful enough to expel air you can prime with a garden hose.

The pump must be powerful enough so that the water does not come out boiling.

If it boils, it's a good sign: the sensor is effective ... :)

ps: obviously, it should not be left in the sun without traffic!
