hello everyone, I'm new to this forumand I hope you can help me in my problem.
I bought a house last year, and here I discovered some small problems ....
that's all, it's a habit with 1 floor, on wood floor, and when I go upstairs, I feel a stream of fresh air ...
so after looking around, I discovered that at the end of joist, I have no closure, so the outside air this ride between the two levels, which makes my floor very cold.
the convertible attic is well insulated by glass wool.
so my two questions are?
- SHOULD I MOUTH this passage by species of glass wool plug at the end of joists? is it sufficient ?
- Or do I have to isolate by blowing, knowing that I have spots in my ceiling of the DRC?
I await your opinions, your answers, your solutions to tackle this problem.
thank you

Re: end joist insulation
Closing the ends to prevent air circulation in the floor will be enough.
By the way, the insulation of this floor was not really well thought out.

Re: end joist insulation
Thank you for your reply.
Yes not very professional this insulation, very poorly designed.
I wonder about how to do it.
Either by really closing with cleats in vertical position that will come on each side of the joists, then come fix the osb on my cleats to have a solid support (put expansive foam on the ends of my osb to have no leakage air) to cleanly clean my glass wool.
Or simply staple the glass wool.
Or, what other solution?
I think I put glass wool in 300 thickness.

Re: end joist insulation
It must of course stop to avoid this draft
It is important to think about the vapor barrier: the vapor barrier must be warm side of the insulation: it must be sealed between the vapor barrier of the living area of the top and bottom, the glass wool between ceiling and floor is useless and even dangerous when there is electrical equipment that may overheat when glass wool hinders its cooling

Re: end joist insulation
The vapor barrier is important for permeable insulation such as glass wool: with a waterproof insulation such as polyurethane foam there is no need: polyurethane foam is a simple way to butcher (removing the glass wool useless)

Re: end joist insulation
Hello chatelot16, thank you for his valuable information, I had already talked about this steam.
So let's get back to the practice, clearly what should I do, explain me from beginning to end so that things are done right without making mistakes.
How would you do for my case?

Re: Insulation end of joists
so, if I understand correctly, you do not need steam between the ground floor and the floor, because no need between two rooms heated.
but on the other hand, I have to put one by steam against the kraft of my glass wool between my joists?
if so, does it excite one by steam incorporated in the kraft of glass wool?
