This continues?

While VW denies the latest accusations from US authorities, the group revealed that it has detected a new problem on 800.000 cars. The point in 5 questions.

Diesel engines rigged: Brazil fines Volkswagen $ 13 million

AFP 12 November 2015

The Brazilian Institute for the Environment (Ibama) has fined 50 million reais (US $ 13,3 million) for Volkswagen / Brazil for rigging diesel engines in the country, the government announced on Thursday.

In a press release, Brasilia adds that this environmental protection organization has asked Volkswagen to present a recall plan for vehicles where software capable of distorting the emission test results has been installed on diesel engines. The government claims that the fine imposed on Volkswagen is the maximum possible under Brazilian law.

Volkswagen, which has acknowledged the rigging of the engines of eleven million vehicles around the world, said on October 22 that it concerned 17 cars of the Amarok model in Brazil. The German manufacturer had indicated in a brief statement that the 057 models and some of 2011 of these vehicles made in Argentina were equipped with a system that "can improve the results" of the measurements of pollutant emissions in the laboratory, in order to make pass its cars as greener than they are.

According to Volkswagen, "all other brand products offered on the Brazilian market equipped with gasoline engines or with Total Flex meet emission standards."

So Brazil would be the first country to take concrete action against liars of VW?

It’s good, it’s good that one begins

I sincerely hope that VW will find itself very low, after this story, and that it costs them a maximum.

I can understand incompetence (subject to conditions), I forgive the error, but I cannot stand the lie. Never.

Well done for them, and let the ball begin.

Grrrrr!

Please note: governments can fine ... but will they pay it?

Does VW have factories in Brazil? Does Brazil have economic interests with VW?

Answer YES and not just a little!

Cf: http://www.latribune.fr/entreprises-fin ... rique.html

Volkswagen announces three billion euros of investment between 2012 and 2016 in Brazil. The German is the second local player behind Fiat.

With its enormous war chest, Volkswagen aligns billions of investments. After the inauguration of a new factory in China last week, the German automotive group announced Thursday an investment of 4,1 billion dollars (3 billion euros) in Brazil over the period 2012-2016. After a meeting with Brazilian President Dilma Roussef, the boss of Volkswagen do Brasil, Thomas Schmall, indicated in particular that the German company would produce the new Golf VII there, for an amount of 236 million dollars (173 millions of euros).

You see what I mean? Are you punishing us? Ok no worries: we will punish you too ...

Then the fine of 13 M € is ridiculously low when we read these figures but:
a) they relate to VW Brazil (so the charge will necessarily be higher in proportion)
b) this is only the first fine

The Brazilian CP does not anticipate a fine higher than 13 million, so this will be the maximum penalty not adaptable upward.

We haven't heard about this case in the media since November 13 ... :| Everyone forgot it :?:
