Insulation: Thin Reflective Insulation Study

by phil12 » 14/12/11, 10:54

Bonjour,

A French group of IMR (reflective thin insulation)

Communicates on an AT issued to it by a GB body.

Giving an equivalent mineral wool / IMR.

Except it is impossible to obtain the measurement protocol for validation tests

Here is a German study from the * Fraunhofer institute, in situ, over 4 periods of 40 days including two winter (, communicated by a CNRS researcher) confirming the French studies of CSTB.

https://www.econologie.info/share/partag ... 2VwvGl.pdf

If you don't understand everything the conclusion is:

Difference of more than double in efficiency of mineral wools (and again I am nice, in the study the figures are rather in a ratio 1 to 3)
IMR does not defy the laws of physics./

* The Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft is a German organization specializing in research in applied sciences. Its name comes from the physicist Joseph von Fraunhofer. It brings together 57 institutes spread over 40 sites across Germany, each specializing in a particular research area and employs 13 people, making it one of the main research organizations at the international level. Funding is provided in part by the state (the federal government and the Länder "own" the body), but two-thirds of the budget comes from research contracts with industry.

There has already been a detailed thread on this subject on econology.

Yes here it is: https://www.econologie.com/forums/isoler-des ... t8971.html

And here is another study by CSTC (the equivalent of Belgian CSTB) on thin insulation: https://www.econologie.info/share/partag ... Pl5hsr.pdf

I do not know if we can speak of "insulation" ...

Reflectors surely.

There is a difference between:
1) Return energy without penetrating a surface
2) Let it slowly cross this surface

yes i think it acts only as a reflector
in all the stores that I see, it marks the lambda on all insulators except on this one so it must not be an insulator strictly speaking

No it is not an insulating material ... but a reflective material which therefore works fairly well with radiation ... one of the 3 forms of thermal transmission.

The spatial insulations are in particular (essentially I even believe) made with reflective insulators ... inevitably there is no air in the space ...
