yes, they were excellent cars. Their line is still very beautiful and not old-fashioned. Very wide, they held the pavement well.

Simply, ours had a vibratory defect ... It left in excellent condition for "scrap" because my parents wanted a new, smaller car (the 25 was a bit of a liner).

I would not be surprised if this car is currently a laborious taxi somewhere in Africa ... :P

For first hand info (the interested party in question):

- I knew, during military service, a friend who was, at the end of the 70s, a specialist in the calculation of complex structures or something of the kind (like the "maths" as we imagine him! at a small reception, we offered a bouquet of roses, which was on the coffee table, next to peanuts and other nibbles; while he was explaining something to us, lost in thought, my friend crunched the petals of the roses while we were peanuts ...)

- he was recruited by Renault at the end of his service, in a team responsible for looking into these vibration issues; the CEO of Renault - I wonder if it is not the one who was assassinated next - having aroused a monumental anger while climbing in his new Renault 30 (I believe), ultra high-end (the best of what was done then at Renault; I recall that Renault's stated policy, which we still knew with the Velsatis, was already at the time to conquer the high-end market occupied by the Germanic) and that it had been thwarted by a beast noise of "vibration" of a plastic on the side of the glove box which disturbed the comfort of the whole ... He had therefore decided to put a team on these questions of vibrations and entry into resonance!

[HS mode ON]
It was not so long ago that people said: "Renault today, every day a new noise". Ford's selling point. : Mrgreen:

This is what happens when you do not skimp .... on small savings. For example, you dismantle a Mercedes dashboard and you look at how the different cables are fixed / guided, the air passages of the ventilation, the minimum thickness and the shape of the stowage of the different bodies, however small. You dismantle a Rheuno dashboard and do the equivalent inspection. It's cheaper for sure .... and there are even times when there is not a foam or rubber that falls on your feet and whose origin you do not know.
[HS OFF mode]

To come back to the subject, it is difficult to locate the start of the sub-regime which knocks the engine too hard and begins its life. The supposed improvement in consumption at lower revs is opposed to the passenger's sound comfort (the lower frequencies are the most painful to hear and difficult to attenuate).

As far as I'm concerned, I drive regularly with an alfa 1.9jtd which has a marvelous engine for use at low speed without unpleasant vibrations. The break passat tdi 140 has Mamita herself, she does not know how to do the calculator, even the engine stopped below 850rpm ... It caused us problems with stalling in 2nd in the roundabouts at the beginning ... This morning I just drove with its replacement (140cv blue motion S&S sedan) on 15 km of congested roads more 8 of agglo while driving father under regime always closest to the maximum speeds anyway ... 4.3l / 100 on the course ... the S&S worked 17 times ... At 90 on the flat it goes down to 3.4l / 100 (but it is not easy to see in a reliable way the instantaneous consumption the slightest gust of wind or slight declivity causing the consumption to oscillate fairly quickly ... I had made a test with the station wagon on open department by driving at the same perfs that my electric sax I was passed below 3L ...

And for the Renault ... The 25 was a hell of a car ... I sold mine (a 2.1 diesel atmo) at almost 400 km the guy made him do 000 more ...

The low frequency is on it painful ... But those higher of an old VE (pump of DA which whistles) it is not top either ... Advantage to the VE: the duration of exposure ... : Shock:

In my memories, it was rather Raymond Lévy and he was talking about his new Renault 25, precisely ... It was Georges BESSE who was murdered.

Otherwise, to abound on the cons: my Mégane dTi is approved at 5,2 l in mixed and I happen very regularly to consume less than 5 l, my current record being at 4,50 l / 100 on a full tank of nearly 1200 km ...

I correct myself: on the flat, I tried to see at what speed my C1 (3 cylinders) continued to run "fluid".

Ben on the flat, without effort (acceleration), it holds ... 30 km / h without problem without vibrating with just a little more than the idle in 5th (my tachometer is not well graduated, it is around 1 rpm visibly)

I therefore correct my stupidity written above on diets.

1) Between us, speaking of myself, I find that nonsense was not very bad. I happened to insult myself stronger!

2) I correct permanently: it's 50!

The C1 has a "long" box. At 30, she is in slow motion in 5th, and there, she "grazes" a little ...
