The neon problem is for cold ignition. In winter it takes a long time for the tube to heat up and light up properly. I have a low consumption lamp that illuminates my terrace and in winter it takes several minutes for it to reach its brightness ...

This problem is unacceptable for a vehicle in terms of security.

Hello
Exocean who you say when I get into my garage a -20
to see clear I pass the propane torch on the neon tubes to start them, if you heat them just in the middle it only illuminates where it is hot, but it sells fluorescent lights on the cold, the ballast is design differrente.
As for economic light in winter, this does not enlighten the devil, even for a long time.
The xenon lights is widespread enough for lighting on snowy road is more efficient (besides the yellow lights good for nothing on the snow, for the fog OK)

To summarize what was said earlier, what technology is the future of home lighting? diodes? low-conso fluo-compact bulbs? xenon?

Organic diodes (OLED) ... but not on the market before 5 to 10 years.
For now, compact fluorescents and white LEDs are the best :D

The white LEDs are in full progress, I was able to see it by looking at two generations of PETZL Tikka lamps (2003 and 2005) the last illuminate much more ...

For my part, I tested the home diodes by buying a bulb 21 diodes, certainly it consumes only 2W, but to have the power (brightness) of a fluorocompact lamp, it would take at least 10
: Arrow: result: Conso identical, more or less, only the life is between 5 and 10 times higher.

Hello,
Having received a LEGOLED led lamp whose connections are damaged intended to replace the 50mm 20 mini halogen spotlights, I dismounted it to see what was inside:
These are three white led SMD kind, but large, the emitting surface is about 4 to 5 mm in diameter, the resin a little bit more. (Luxeon ??)
They are mounted on a printed circuit dirrectement on a cooler in black aluminum, and behind is another CI taking again the electronic regulation.
It is a switching regulator, but the manufacturer scraped the markings of the unique integrated circuit found there :frown: therefore, there is no way of knowing exactly what it is.
By cons as 3 leds are mounted in series, I am almost certain that it is simply a current limitation.

PS What does not spoil it is that the LEDs are good, there were only the "pasta" connection that were damaged! It lights up loud enough but whiter than a hallogene

This is not because we always said that it is impossible that we should not try :)

Hello everyone ,

Regarding Tikka 2003 and 2005 lamps the difference in power can be explained by a small increase in the diameter of the leds, according to Petzl, the luminous power gain is 80%.
