Insulation works are in the spotlight in France (Ademe)

by Christophe » 12/10/11, 10:41

The Ademe has just carried out a survey on the work on building energy in France, and, oh good surprise, insulation is far ahead! This is very good, especially since these are the works the least helped and subsidized (but the most energy efficient)!

I am also delighted with the decrease in heat pump installations! And Bam!

It seems that everything that has been advocated on econology for years (against heat pumps and for insulation in ultra priority) has taken effect in real life (despite the intoxes of certain lobbies, edf in mind .. .)!

We can only rejoice!

The number of households carrying out insulation work reached its highest level since 1986. 11/10/2011

2011 BAROMETER: HOUSEHOLDS FACING ENERGY CONTROL IN THEIR HOUSING - ADEME 2010 survey

ADEME is today publishing the results of its annual barometer on the behavior of French households with regard to energy management work in their homes. This 2011 edition (survey covering the year 2010) confirms the increase in the number of households having carried out energy conservation work (14,4% in 2010 vs. 12,2% in 2008). In a context of economic and financial concerns, this study shows the weight of the awareness of the French, the incentive role of financial aid and the growing influence of professionals and INFO-> ENERGY spaces in the decision-making of individuals.

In times of crisis, French people anxious to reduce their energy consumption

Concerned about controlling their budget, households that responded to the survey are more interested than ever in their energy expenditure, which 46% find too high. Thus, for 4 out of 5 French people questioned, reducing the share of energy in the budget has become a priority, mainly to cope with the increase in the cost of energy, but also to avoid energy waste.

A high level of energy efficiency work

This awareness partly explains the still high level of energy management work carried out in 2010 (14,4% of French people surveyed in 2010 vs. 14,8% in 2009). Almost 80% of households (against 76,3% in 2009) who have invested have given priority to insulation work in their homes. Among these interventions, 26% concerned the installation of double glazing and 12% the insulation of roofs and attics. Improvements to heating and hot water systems are down slightly: 33,6% of households in 2010 against 37% in 2009.

Comfort before the amount of the bill

The main motivation cited by households having carried out work is improving comfort (31,2% vs. 30,1% in 2009), which this year is ahead of the desire to reduce the energy bill (31% vs. 32,3% in 2009), leading since 2007.

The households concerned spent, on average, less for their energy conservation work in 2010 (4396 euros per dwelling versus 4899 euros in 2009). Work on heating is particularly affected, with a decline in heat pump installations, which contributes to lowering the average cost of an intervention. It is also possible that, more generally, in the current context, households are more reluctant to invest.

A very high rate of work carried out by professionals

69% of energy management work carried out in 2010 was carried out by professionals. This figure, stable compared to 2009, confirms the incentive weight of the 5,5% VAT applied to renovation work. 95% of responding households are also satisfied with the professionals they have called upon. But nearly half of them now expect more advice from them on the solutions to be provided and the energy performance achieved.

A tax credit still widely acclaimed

To finance their energy efficiency interventions, 84% of households were also able to benefit from a sustainable development tax credit (CIDD). In addition, 16% were able to take out a subsidized bank loan (Eco-PTZ).

Survey methodology

Since 1986, ADEME has carried out an annual survey on household behavior with regard to energy management work in their homes.

It takes place in 2 successive phases:

* a first dispatch of questionnaires by post to a sample of 10 households, at the end of January;
* a second mailing, in April, addressed only to households having undertaken work the previous year: i.e. 1424 in 2010.

All the responses constitute a barometer of the evolution over the past 25 years in the opinions and attitudes of French households with regard to the environment and energy in their homes.

I find the sample a bit small. Only 1424 households.
To see that it is the distribution of the sample (Paris region or equally distributed over the whole territory).

However, I remain mixed with the results. 34% still prefer to improve the heating / hot water system rather than insulating. There are pros and cons.

However, the drop in the heat pump is very good news.

When we work, we must always give 100%: 12% on Monday; 25% Tuesday; 32% Wednesday; 23% on Thursday; and 8% on Friday

That's right, but do we still have to see what the heat pumps that are not installed are replaced by?
