Torrential rains which fell over the weekend in southern Japan, causing landslides and floods, left at least ten people dead, according to a new report released on Monday.
On Monday in the southern island of Kyushu, the corpses of a man and a woman were extracted from a car buried under a mudslide, and a five-year-old child was found drowned after being swept away by a river, said a spokesman for the local police. Seven other people were found dead in the area over the weekend, while a 61-year-old woman and her 34-year-old daughter, whose house was buried by a landslide, remain missing. Last week, landslides and floods caused by heavy rain had already left 16 dead and two missing in Yamaguchi prefecture, in the west of the main island of Honshu, according to a latest report. (HIE)
