Very nice this bike but it is not entirely made of bamboo although it is possible because we used to make bicycle rims in glued bamboo.

In Asia we say: "Bamboo, stronger than steel lighter than aluminum!"

The overall embodied energy balance should be interesting to study.

For glued bamboo rims ??? Do you have to bend them?.... do you happen to have any photos of these creations?

One of my neighbors had a bicycle with glued bamboo fiber rims. It was a half race bike that must have been from the 20s or 30s with a single speed and S cranks. It was quite a few years old and I don't have any pictures. I wonder what glue could be used. :?:

I did a little research on the net and I found the remarkable blog of Jérome Sadou "Fixed gear and adventures in Japan":

I allowed myself to steal 3 photos from him in order to publicize this blog because it's not ordinary:

There are bamboo bicycle manufacturers in Japan, Kijafa for example.

Well the link with the epoxy resin assembly. Just a downside, I'm not sure it's very cheap / common in deep Africa.

See also other films in the style.

If you want an eco-friendly bike, take a closer look at the first bikes...all made of wood and without pedals!

It will cost less! : Cheesy:
