Doping with water: handcrafted and assembled ...

by mastidoik » 15/01/09, 01:04

Here is a water doping kit designed and made by hand.
This is my first proto, maybe there will be more later ...

Thank you to grandpa sunflower for his help and for the provision of his workshop and his tools.
Thanks to bob_isat for the implementation tips and the synthesis he has done on this process.
Thanks to Gaël for his feedback on this process, for this advice as well as for the reflections on the operation and optimization of the process.

Some will surely recognize the resemblance with kits sold in the trade.
If I made this choice of shape and size, it is not to have to weld on the muffler.

This kit is entirely made of stainless steel.
2 stainless steel was chosen for manufacturing.
Ferrietic and therefore magnetic stainless steel for the reactor and non-magnetic stainless steel for the bubbler and the diffuser.
To find these stainless, I went to the scrap dealers in the Toulouse region and I came out for 45eur tube, sheet and log of all kinds and different sections ...

Here is a small diagram of the system.

The bubbler is warmed by the LDR thanks to a modine solder around.

First of all here are the different parts after their manufacturing and machining which will constitute the different elements of the kit.
To know :
- the reactor
- the bubbler
- the diffuser

Now here are the parts soldering without any finishing.
I point out that stainless steel is not easy to weld when you have never welded this material. And this despite my experience in welding on common steel: Oxy-acetylene melting and solder; bow ; MIG pro etc. ...
The welds have been made with a handyman MIG post that unfortunately has no intensity adjustment at 5A ready.
Not easy to be on the waterproof !!!

And now after finishing the drémel with a small wire brush
The bubbler

the reactor

And the diffuser

Now place for editing.

Here is the pot with caesarean section that goes well to introduce the reactor.
Brush well around the cut.

The reactor will mount and tighten with stainless steel collars.
The tightness between the reactor and the pot is made with special mastic muffler.

The bubbler isolated on its support (made with the recovery) and the tank has constant level.
I bought the latter in an old vehicle exchange purse, she was riding on an old motorcycle carburetor.

The bubbler mount in the engine compartment with its water supply.
The latter is neither more nor less than an expansion tank of 205 gasoline.

The stopper of the water supply comes from a power steering jar it is necessary to remove the capsule which restricts the passage of air.

The stitching of the LDR for the bubbler.
Stitching with the valve is that of the bi-fuel heaters.

Now here is the diffuser mount before the intake manifold.
We can see behind the diffuser the turbine WITH.
This one makes a restriction which favors the venturi effect and the suction by the diffuser.

The white hose is a silicone hose that serves as suction bubbler. I think I will eventually install a small air filter.
The same hoses connect the bubbler to the reactor and the reactor to the diffuser.
They are insulated with plumbing sleeve

And a picture of the engine compartment of the ZX bi fuel and dope with water : Lol:

Listing and prices:

    - Stainless steel wire coil MIG = 21.9eur
    - Stainless steel (tubes, sheets etc.) = 45eur
    - 90 bicone bend X2 = 15.2eur
    - Constant level tank = 15eur
    - Stainless steel collar (hose) X14 = 21.6eur
    - Tees male 20 / 27 X 2 = 10.92eur
    - End piece d15mm F 20 / 27 X2 = 3.72eur
    - Equal sleeve FF 20 / 27 X2 = 6.84eur
    - Female plug 26 / 34 = 4.48eur
    - Male plug 8 / 13 = 1.38eur
    - Miscellaneous screws = 8.76eur
    - Crystal tube 3cm = recup
    - Corniere galva = recup
    - Stainless steel collar (reactor) = recup
    - colson necklace = recup
    - Silicone hose = recup
    - Insulating sleeve = rest of the bi-carb

    TOTAL = 154.8eur

Knowing that there is enough to make another kit ...:)

The kit seems to work, the car has more recovery and better climbs the odds.
Ex: some mount or I was forced to be in 3 °, now it goes alone in 4 °.

I would give them up to conso by 1 months or 2.
I prefer to average conso on several full to be as accurate as possible ...

Good evening

and welcome to you. it's a beautiful achievement.

consumptions are to be measured if it is not on several full, at least on identical courses, with the same style of driving.

Good luck for the future

jeff

Hello

winter cold it is possible that the yield is low, waiting for the best days before making changes because you will go round in circles.
the best results I have always done at temperatures around 20c
Measure well the amount of water consumed
At the beginning of small trips 80km to see if everything is waterproof if nothing breaks, if the water consumption is regular many stops to verrifier, once the sytéme experienced begins the real test
the way of tested, I will first make a little tour for reheating of the engine, then I make full diesel overflow, full of water and a trip around 200km minimum then full fuel overflow at the same station same position car and water paints with precise measurement.

Hello
Thank you coucou789456 and André for your advice and advice.

I forgot to mention that the editing was done in the Christmas period.
My conso before editing ranged from 6.5 to 6.8L / 100km on this kind of ride.

I made a return trip Toulouse - Vars is a little more than 600km go.
So to go my conso was 6.06L / 100km with 2 ski pairs on the roof. So a bigger wind gain.
In return, she was 5.76L / 100km without ski on the roof.
To see now with time and t ° as you recommend
André.

I had a small problem with my tank at constant level. the bubbler is no longer filled alone.
I'm going to look at this today because it was a bit ch ... t having to return water all the 150km on the return ...

Voili voilou for the moment

Hello Mastodoik

Beautiful "synthetic" achievement 8)

For your problem of constant level, look if you can not play with its venting by connecting it to various places (high water tank, or top of the bubbler with a restriction). You can also watch if you can not ball the float that is made for gasoline that has a lower density. (example by gluing stainless steel washers of different thickness under or on the float.)
Good tests :P

mastidoik your editing is interesting but can you please host the pictures on our host? Otherwise in a few months they may disappear from forum and nobody will understand anything ...

Hello mastodoik

excellent, you already have positive results.

all those who tried the first time did not all have positive results from the first tests. I wish you to persevere.

jeff

ps: you are from Toulouse, I'm in Narbonne, we could meet because we are not far ... finally Castelnaudary for example (100 Km from home).

Bonsoir

Flytox:

Thanks for the pipe ...
I exchange my tank for a central heating air trap = 10eur
I did what you recommended, I connect the vent to the top of the bubbler ... and there ... It works ... :D
I called someone who sells the kind of tub I had to ride.
In new = 55eur
So my choice was quickly made.

Christophe:

I am willing to host the images on the site hoster but a has, it's long ...
I do not really understand the problem. I already use this kind of host on other forum in PhpBB in the images, always appear and this same one years later ...
Can you explain to me?

cuckoo789456:

That's what I intend to do Jeff
: Wink:
I hope to have even more convincing results, finally that I would see well ...
As for meeting this, I do not see any problem.
We talk about it in MP?
