As already said, when we speak of dense urban center, it is not a question of densifying even more the existing cities with towers even more madly higher where one makes hold whole villages there without worrying about who generally accompanies villages (schools, sports grounds, ...)
But it is precisely a question of reviving small towns or even villages by managing to find sufficient density to have schools, shops, mechanics, businesses. The accommodation in 2 or 3 which superform speaks of could come close, but it is not enough to have enough activities without the car or to be able to have good public transport.
There are still flag areas ( http://www.saint-divy.fr/images/vueaerienne.jpg ) taking up a lot of space and requiring a lot more space from cars and supermarkets with hectares of parking: http://images.google.fr/imgres?imgurl=h ... l%26sa%3DN
Then one wonders why agriculture is and will be more and more intensive.
There may be a balance to be found between rabbit cages grouping the equivalent of several villages not even near the services (there is often a little further a large shopping center) and hectares of suburban areas where there is no can't even buy her bread.
