HS antenna amplifier?

And if they were repairing rather than throwing and change? Rediscover the pleasure of the repairs yourself. How to diagnose a problem or find spare parts? Repair itself is way to save money generally!

Here is the machine, which for some time, no longer works.
He is more than 10 years old, the brown spot appeared on the first months. I needed this amp to power 4 TVs.

I did a test, with another cable, nothing, the cable of a TV connected directly to a TV, it works not too badly, so antenna and TV, 99% out of the question, and various cross tests for eliminate causes other than limping.

I checked the voltages on arrival, at the output of the transformer, the AC, and the DC for the rest, so, unfortunately, I'm afraid it's not an electrical problem... .

Do you have an idea to slip into my ear?

I've tried laying on of hands, nothing, burning a candle in church, and nothing either.
A marabout, not yet....

Does the circuit smell burnt (or smelled burnt soon after failure)?

No, nothing to feel abnormal.

But it's been a mess for a few months, and after a storm, a fortnight ago, the TV cut off.

Lightning does not forgive. There is no preamp at the foot of the antenna?

The antenna is in the attic, and the amplifier is less than 2m away from the antenna.

That thing is weird! : Mrgreen:

If it's lightning you're lucky, because you could resell the cable at a good price to audiophiles... I haven't tried it but it seems that it would orient all the copper atoms in the same direction, thus offering very little loss to the audio signal.

In addition, the antenna cables are shielded, which protects against possible interference on the signal, and it is often full sections.

Now there are other problems to solve in a chain, audio, which is judged by its weakest link. (but that's not the point...)

With RMS circuits, if you don't know too much the investigation is difficult.

On the other hand, before buying another splitter, you can check with an ohm-meter the continuity of the copper tracks, including those included in the plexiglass support, by pointing to the connections of the welded elements.
Look first, where it's burned.
Copper can "fuse"

At home there is an amplifier following the box connecting the antenna and the old one from TF1, then an output wire which crosses the entire length of the attic to go down to the ground floor where I then installed a 4-output splitter amplifier, to 3tv
I had asked the installer the question about the interest of putting the amplifier at the start of the antenna or as far away as possible before the splitter. He told me (23 years ago)
"there are 2 schools"... :D

But if your 4 output coaxials are already installed... : Wink:
