Elco Mazout Boiler Specialist

by nico1985 » 20/03/15, 11:46

Hello everybody

I have often gone through this forum as a visitor and here I have decided to register for advice from you.

I have a 15 year old Elco Klocker 29KW oil boiler with 90% efficiency

Currently I consume 1000l of fuel oil for 3 months. (It's my first winter)
Knowing that I heat my house to 16 ° using the boiler and that from 17 p.m. to 4 a.m., I heat my house with a wood fire and find my consumption enormous.

My excessive consumption is due to me to several factors:
1) My pipes in my technical space are not insulated.
2) I only have 10cm of rock wool between my ground floor and my floor. (Unfinished floor and uninsulated roof)
3) my boiler is located in an unheated room (4 ° in winter)
4) my thermostat only plays on the circulator.

My question, apart from points 1 to 2 which concerns insulation and which I intend to remedy this summer, concerns point 4

Can I turn off my circulator and my burner at the same time? In my opinion I would save money by not heating my boiler between 17 p.m. and 4 a.m. (when I have a wood fire)

Thank you in advance,

PS: any other suggestions remarks are of course welcome.

yes, overall, making a night shutdown of the burner will eliminate the losses by sweeping the heating body.
moreover, the efficiency of a heating system is better when the temperature of the radiator circuit is the minimum necessary.
it is therefore necessary to avoid having a V3V open fully or almost and then thermostatic valves to the radiators which cut the flow.
it is better to have radiators fully open and just sufficient water temperature. this is all the more true in your case where your pipes pass in cold and badly insulated places.

Bonsoir.

What is a v3v?
Is there no risk of condensation to cut like this the boiler?

V3V = 3-way valve
switching off the burner can bring the temperature of the stove down to below the dew point.
but there will only be one stop / start cycle per night.

Ah yes ... I do not know if I have a v3v my boiler is only used for heating. I only have 2 pipes.

OK so if I understand correctly I can modify my thermostat so that it cuts both my circulation (this is what is already the case) plus my burner.

In view of my insert when it is working for several hours, there is no risk of condensation for my boiler.

By cons I ask myself another question ... The dew point is 68degres ... I read that. Does that mean that my boiler must have a minimum temperature of 69drgres? Because here I put it at 60degres.

Thank you in advance

68 ° T ° of smoke, not water. It's okay.

I would add a timed relay on the circulator (such as a stairwell relay) to properly remove the calories from the heating body. Otherwise, the T ° of the boiler goes up another notch after extinction.
