Clone a system hard drive to Crucial MX500 SSD (review, test ...)?

Buying well and choosing a product or service well means, in addition to being satisfied, consuming less and preserving the planet, it is essential in 2021 to buy better! Also the exchange of information and experiences makes it possible to avoid various scams and crooks. In 2021, it is essential to exchange your experiences of use, positive or negative, because the market for products and services for the consumer has never been so abundant in the history of mankind. Helping to choose better is essential because buying better means buying sustainable!

I have a recurring Pending Sector Count issue with the SSD ... which seems to resolve itself?

Is this related to cloning a disk with bad sectors (HDS indicated 1 sector HS but when I cloned I had X unreadable sector errors ... I ignored everything so I don't know how many there are have there been)? Is it serious doctor ? What to do ? Is it the SSD that is self-repairing the HS sectors resulting from the cloning?

And the smart data graph "197 Current Pending Sector Count" remains at 0 ... n / a ???

Guy (and the others)? What do you think ?

I think cloning is good, but clean install is better.

No kidding ? That's why you've already cloned 6 for your friends !! Like fake friends ... I ask Guy! Hihihi P0Wn3D !! : Mrgreen: : Mrgreen: : Mrgreen:

Well, as long as it repairs itself automatically, no worries ... I just don't know if it is the same sector that is causing the problem or different ones ... I am leaning towards different ... 2 new interventions since this morning .. .

15/06/2021 11: 42: 24, # 197 Current Pending Sector Count 1 -> 0
15/06/2021 11: 37: 23, # 197 Current Pending Sector Count 0 -> 1
15/06/2021 11: 32: 22, # 197 Current Pending Sector Count 1 -> 0
15/06/2021 11: 27: 22, # 197 Current Pending Sector Count 0 -> 1

Funny there are exactly 5 minutes between detection and repair ... Any clue?

And it was always the case except the very first which took 1 min ...

07/06/2021 20: 04: 10, # 197 Current Pending Sector Count 1 -> 0
07/06/2021 19: 54: 09, # 197 Current Pending Sector Count 0 -> 1

ps: the old disk failed the simple read test by HDS ... so I think it was more damaged than the 99% given by SMART ... and that its "bad sectors" were cloned ...

To see how it evolves over time ... It's interesting it shows the limits of cloning (but I knew it before launching the operation)

I said "cloning is good, a clean install is better" ... Not "cloning is rotten" ... A clean install is ALWAYS better ...: roll:

Of course, if we clone a disk with errors and corrupted sectors, we will end up with the same errors and the same corrupted sectors in the new disk, because it is cloning.

Of course except that there are 2 types of corrupted sectors (I think, I believe): unrecoverable hard and recoverable software ...

On my old one, it was certainly hard since the simple HDS reading self-test did not even pass ... and the cloning could not even be carried out on certain sectors ...

These "hard bad sectors" have probably turned into "soft bad sectors" ... And maybe that's what the SSD is correcting?

Is it just a guess?

If it is unrecoverable, the sector is not corrupted, it is screwed up.

Yes it is screwed up because mechanically unreadable (on the old hard) ... In case of cloning I think it becomes recoverable (on the new hard) but obviously with loss of data ... and probably automatically (formatting by sector ?) ...

Hardware bad sectors, this is a physical problem on the hard drive.

Software bad sectors. This is a problem with the file system that could for example be caused by an electrical interruption during a write operation to the disk. The error can be repaired by a dedicated utility.

The concern is that with me the SMART data:

Relocated Sector Count
Relocated Event Count
Count Pending Sector

Remain at 0 ... including in the history? Maybe it's due to the repair in 5 minutes? I don't know how often SMART data is refreshed, it may be once every hour ... So errors fixed in 1 minutes go unnoticed! :P :P :P

2.14 GB / h average consumption with my Lexar SSD
I am curious to know what gives https://www.hwinfo.com/download/ with yours.
