[Solved: swirl butterflies] What's that on a 1.9 TiD Saab engine (small oil leak on the cylinder head)?

Transport and new transport: energy, pollution, engine innovations, concept car, hybrid vehicles, prototypes, pollution control, emission standards, tax. not individual transport modes: transport, organization, carsharing or carpooling. Transport without or with less oil.

Whoops the carnage!!!
The cylinder / sleeve must be able to be rebored? Like this, in the photo, the seizing does not look deep.
I think the cylinder head is very bad .... even refinished it will crack then and the valve seats may have "moved"!?
The piston is cooked...
You will be able to take out the checkbook : Wink:
I saw an engine which had swallowed a small screw, in only one cylinder, however 2 cylinders were destroyed, the screw had to go up by the exhaust to go and screw up the adjacent cylinder!

It smells like a leak at the manifold.
Are there any seals on either side?
(In addition to the plastic guide which may have some play)
For what ? Because it only oozes on one point?

I looked on a database under:
SAAB 9-3 1.9 TTiD from 2005, couldn't find anything.

When it oozes, there's always a joint that leaks kek part

And you're right ... On the photos that I could chopper on the net. Your engine would be the same as the alfa 156 159 ...... On which the swirl problems were very frequent To the point that it there are removal condemnation kits that can be found very easily on the net....

I also thought that my client was good for a big big bill... But the engine repair specialist was very very optimistic change of the piston to the original dimension with cylinder surfacing and larger segments control of the connecting rod and bearings

The cylinder head leaks on a single valve change of this one taken back from the seat and according to him ... It's back like in 40 ... These engines are reputed to be able to take stock 500 pony and 1000 in good preparation .... The we stay on stock at only 340... : Cheesy:

It actually looks like this! I'll watch the full video tomorrow...

I clicked, I saw and I understood!! : Mrgreen:

It's exactly the same base as my engine...the last saabs were indeed bastard cars! (but I already knew that)

A priori my swrils were already blocked on the left, I tried to translate the bar, impossible (but I don't want to force my old lady too much) and I looked, no way to see the swirl control motor ...

Yesterday, I dared not show it to you but I had already blocked the pivoting of the connecting rod (which blocks the translation)...I recycled a cork of crémant! : Lol: I'm a genius, I repair unknown breakdowns on instinct! : Mrgreen: : Mrgreen:

And as indicated in the video, since the engine seems to run better when cold and on start-up...but that may be subjective...

So where does the oil/dirt come from? There's not supposed to be engine oil in the manifolds, is there? A leak at the swirl cap or collector when the EGR is active seems to me the only explanation? Is EGR recycling as fat as that? : Shock:

To be penard it's not the swirl that you have to look for but the condemnation / removal kits.

But doing the job in an inaccessible area with an engine at 280 km... I would hesitate. You find yourself a van instead, and which will be much more comfortable than your trailer to sleep in or transport (and you won't even shed a tear....)

In the meantime, for your trailer, maybe you can drive carefully, thanks to the "provisional insurance certificates (possibly free with some companies) and your wheeled sideboard will be "perpetually awaiting approval"... And when you repeat the request, you change insurance company each time! And if it's not possible, you can with a paid certificate >

:?:

You mean your trailer is going to end up as a garden shed or an extra workshop on wheels? 8) I said that to help out.

I've seen kits, and from what I've seen you have to disassemble the manifold to mount them! No no no ?

There is a risk of engine breakage only if the butterfly breaks (reason?), in "open" engine as I put a priori no worries except the grease leak (origin to be determined)
