ADEME finances 11 research projects on clean (and therefore electric) vehicles

ADEME press release

Following the call for expressions of interest for “road vehicles with low greenhouse gas emissions”, 11 files are examined by the Environment and Energy Management Agency (ADEME) to determine their eligibility for assistance in the form of a grant. All of these projects are in line with the roadmap proposed following the Grenelle Environnement and represent an R&D budget of around € 137 million.

Eight projects representing more than € 36 million in aid have already been validated by the steering committee of the Research Demonstrator Fund and mark the concrete application of this support system implemented within the framework of the Grenelle Environment.

· ElLiSup, proposed by IRISBUS, CEA and EDF, aims to experiment with two types of demonstrators: a hybrid bus equipped with batteries suitable for recharging at the end of the line and an all-electric bus of standard size which will allow operating costs to be reached close to that of diesel.

· FORWHEEL, presented by MICHELIN, HEULIEZ and the CEA, offers the production of electric vehicle demonstrators optimized in terms of mass and reliability, with full integration of the braking, suspension, motorization and steering functions in the wheels.

· DHRT2, proposed by TOYOTA, EDF, Ecoles des Mines, and INES consists of carrying out a demonstration on a significant scale of an experimental fleet of plug-in hybrid vehicles with an innovative charging infrastructure on an urban site, and studying the convergence of solar housing -transport.

· QUAT'ODE, presented by VELEANCE and CAR & D, proposes to produce a light electric and tilting quadricycle for urban deliveries.

· VEGA / THOP, driven by VALEO and RENAULT, initiates a break in thermal management on board electrically propelled vehicles. The objective is to produce a demonstrator which improves the autonomy of the vehicles by lowering the powers dedicated to passenger compartment thermal and which provides thermal resources to control the temperature of the batteries, thus improving their lifespan.

· VELECTA, proposed by AIXAM, CEA and INRETS, aims to produce demonstrators of electric vehicles in the field of light and heavy quadricycles "without a license". The consortium wishes to integrate new lithium battery technologies and high-performance battery control electronics.

· VELROUE, a project developed by MICHELIN, RENAULT and IFP, uses a research demonstrator to demonstrate the feasibility of a dual-mode utility vehicle equipped with wheel motors on the rear axle.

· WATT, developed by the company PVI, aims to produce an electric bus demonstrator using the energy stored in supercapacitors which are recharged at bus stops. This option makes it possible to limit the amount of on-board batteries and promotes very long autonomy thanks to occasional recharges of the supercapacitors.

The demonstrators resulting from these collaborative projects will make it possible to validate technological breakthroughs favoring the reduction in the consumption of fossil fuels and CO2 emissions in the field of road transport.

In addition, three other files are under investigation. Depending on the expertise and scheduled hearings of the project leaders, the files will be presented to the steering committee before the end of the first half of 2009:

· HYDOLE, proposed by PSA, FREESCALE and EDF, aims to validate a concept of a predominantly electric hybrid vehicle and to federate the players around the emergence of a sector for related technologies (electric motor, power electronics, batteries, specific auxiliaries , charging infrastructure, etc.).

· MELODYS, offered by RENAULT Trucks, PVI and IFP, consists of producing 3 demonstrators of heavy rechargeable hybrid vehicles (12 tonnes) fitted with electric motors; they will make it possible to test their uses in various configurations (vehicles for urban deliveries, refrigerated vehicles, dumpsters for household waste).

· MHYGAL, proposed by VALEO, PSA and FREESCALE consists of demonstrating hybridization systems with high power alternator-starter, belt driven, for the optimization of motors with strong "downsizing" (strong reduction in displacement).

Hey hey say so, with all these big names ... it will boost the electric kW on the road : Cheesy:

pending these advanced technologies (Li-On electrified soaps) in 2039 :?:

Well, I'm teasing

Not really since they are research programs, demonstrators.

For direct commercial projects: range of 9 100% electric Renault vehicles for the Israeli and Danish markets initially.

Renault:

"The Renault-Nissan Alliance is preparing the first large-scale launch of electric vehicles. The partnership with Better Place, a company developing the electricity distribution network, aims to massively market electric vehicles supplied by Renault in Israel and Denmark from 2011. Efficient and 100% electric, these cars generate no CO2 emissions and pollutants and reduce noise pollution. An ideal means of transport that will meet a large part of the population's needs. "

"Renault is developing" a complete range of 100% electric powertrains which will cover the power range from 50 kW to 100 kW (70 hp to 140 hp). It is intended for all categories of vehicles: from city cars to family sedans. by vans and vans. The first 100% electric powertrains will be fitted to a notchback sedan and a Kangoo type utility vehicle from 2011. ""

The French state has coordinated the group purchase of electric vehicles for several large companies, it is an excellent way to launch the new industrial dynamic linked to individual electro-mobility.

This approach is reflected in a letter of intent signed by the State and the main companies interested in electric vehicles (La Poste, EDF, GDF Suez, Veolia, France Télécom, Vinci ...). This approach will be extended to achieve the objective of 100.000 electric vehicles by the end of 2012, as defined by the President of the Republic. It will result in the definition of a common specification by the end of the first half of 2009, in order to allow the launch of the first calls for tenders in the fall of 2009 (...) - (...) based on the report submitted by Jean-Claude Mailly, Luc Chatel and Chantal Jouanno have decided to launch a coordinated approach to purchasing electric vehicles between the State and major public and private accounts. This is what bothers me in all of this ...

It's "funny" anyway because to make protopipos (about 2 or 3 per year for each show) the manufacturers do not need subsidies but as soon as it affects the "clean" vehicle they need public aid and very long delays ...

There is something unclear behind all this ...

Western manufacturers have invested heavily in dirty engines (heat engines) and want to receive the fruits as long as possible. They also have historic and juicy partnerships with the oil companies.

The French government is really very active so that France goes electric.

French manufacturers respond "OK, but then help us set up the new production units".
They drag their feet but still go (by force, they no longer really have a choice) to action given the fierce competition from Asian electric cars (China, Korea, Japan, India) which is arriving at high speed V.
