Journey to the Center of the Earth ? the nuclear tunneller ...

by bernardd » 22/09/10, 07:30

It is the only book by Jules Verne that has not (yet) been produced.

At least officially! Patents for a nuclear tunneling machine appear to have been filed.

I'm not sure where to look for these patents, if anyone has a lead?

The idea is to melt the ground, which makes it possible to move forward, but also to create a "glass" to stiffen the walls of the tunnel, which avoids having to evacuate waste.

There are many references on the internet, such as:
http://grandmasolo.blogspot.com/2010/06 ... nnels.html

Information or science fiction? Everyone can choose.

It remains to find the patents!

Houla between the vacuum transport of air https://www.econologie.com/forums/transport- ... t9963.html and this is the period of "mega futuristic projects" it seems ... : Cheesy:

Futuristic? The patent dates from 1971! It has long since fallen into the public domain ...

In fact the link was in the quoted text, but with a typo at the beginning:

This is very exotic.

But I still think that a small surface vacuum tube system is the most suitable for our known economic and technical means, and would be profitable very quickly compared to cars, trains and planes.

Anyway, we will never exceed a few tens of km of the earth's crust ... so for transport in modified gravity it's cooked I think ...

Unless you have an idea to "shore up" the mantle magma? : Mrgreen:
