The car of the future

Transport and new transport: energy, pollution, engine innovations, concept car, hybrid vehicles, prototypes, pollution control, emission standards, tax. not individual transport modes: transport, organization, carsharing or carpooling. Transport without or with less oil.

So record broken again for the Toyota Mirai II with 1360 km against 1003 km previously.

This time it's on the roads of southern California. 5,6 kg of H2 were consumed which makes an average of 0,42 kg per 100 km.

The drivers are known hypermilers.

A new car bike project: the Frikar, a half-car, half-bike machine

The Frikar, a half-car, half-bike vehicle, will be marketed in 2022.

After raising 3,2 million euros in funds and collecting a list of pre-orders, the Norwegian start-up Podbike has announced that it will deliver its first electric bike-car in the course of 2022.

Designed by a Norwegian start-up

The Norwegian start-up Podbike has just launched the marketing of its first hybrid vehicle, half-auto, half-car. Baptized Frikar, it is what is called an “electric velomobile”.

This machine has four wheels but it is considered a bicycle. Indeed, its hybrid format allows it to take cycle paths while offering the comfort and safety of a car. Once installed, the driver can pedal in a seated position and benefit from electric assistance.

Comfort and safety guaranteed

According to Podbike, anyone between 1,50 and 2 meters tall can sit down and ride a Frikar. The e-bike is equipped with headlights, taillights, turn signals, integrated reflectors and an exterior mirror.

Its design has been studied in such a way that it offers even less air resistance than a classic bike. Designed for the northern climate, the vehicle has complete protection that shelters the driver from bad weather. Little more, the machine even offers a heating option. Finally, a location is even dedicated to the installation of a child seat.

Up to 80 km of autonomy
The Frikar has an electric pedal assistance system. The pedals are connected to a generator which powers the two motors placed on the rear wheels. Thus, the hybrid vehicle provides a speed of 25 km/h which can reach 60 km/h downhill.

As for its autonomy, it varies from 50 to 80 km thanks to a rechargeable battery. It depends on the type of roads taken and the average speed practiced. In driverless mode (“drier less mode”), the Frikar e-bike travels at 6 km/h, which is approximately the same speed as a person walking.

A useful but expensive solution

The objective of the start-up Podbike is to promote and support the transition to more efficient and more sustainable modes of transport. In Europe, for example, the Frikar is technically classified as an electric bicycle. A classification that allows drivers to use it on cycle paths.

But this challenge comes at a price. Indeed, the machine is sold at 6 euros and is already available for pre-order on the start-up's website subject to a deposit of 249 €. On the same page as that dedicated to the pre-order, the start-up also offers interested parties to calculate “how many additional years” they can add to their life if they reduce their carbon footprint by adopting the Frikar.

to return to the subject

of this self-bike...

Chui not too convinced, but as always, some users will be able to appreciate.

I find it quite dangerous on roads with normal cars... in town up to 50 km/h it can pass.

the price too... 6000 €, you have to like it.
