Passat TDI with SCR: less than 2.8 L at 100!

by gildas » 18/01/13, 23:06

A step in the right direction, a VW Passat TDI set the world record for the longest distance on a clean diesel fuel tank. The 2012 Passat TDI stock was fitted with a six-speed manual transmission and had an average of 84,1 miles per gallon during its three-day trip totaling 1626 miles.

This Passat is equipped with a depollution system SCRwhich would be one of the elements to save fuel ... the problem is that you have to buy the Adblue additive!

Note that if the intake air of a diesel would pass around the exhaust pipe(to remove particles) NOX could be removed or reduced by doping with water ...

Too bad there is not more information in this article (hourly average, traffic conditions and weather ...) to see if this record comes close or far to "normal" conditions of use (be it a minimum "reproducible" by everyone).

Note that if the intake air of a diesel would pass around the exhaust pipe(For Supprimer particles) NOX could be removed or reduced by doping with water ...

Also a shame that the Quanthomme link is not better documented, we do not understand what he did / modified exactly and there are not enough details on his results.

For the "removal" of the particles which would be linked to the heating of the diesel intake air, ooouuuuaip the trouble is that this heating of the intake air also promotes the production of NOx .... and for obtain the best compromise between these 2 pollutants, hello the instrumentation to be implemented among others. : Mrgreen:

The SCR system also works on this principle, high temperature and controls NOX.

I have a doubt about the use of adblue on this car, other internet sources speak of a NOX trap on Volkswagens ...
