Match Diesel Hybrid: Toyota Prius and Jetta TDI 2010 2011

Bonjour à tous

I am showing you an excellent article by Daniel Breton, which has just appeared today in Le Devoir, and which dispels several myths against hybrids.

Sincerely

Pierre Langlois, Ph.D.

: Arrow: I am very surprised with the result. : Arrowu:
I would also have thought that on the road, the VW TDI consumed less than the PRIUS.

So I remember that the VW Jetta TDI consumes, in winter:
- In town: 3 liters more per 100 km
- On the road: 1,5 liters more per 100 km

This shows the full potential of the hybrid car and the inevitable generalization of this technology on cars which will lead to the extinction of "classic" vehicles, under the pressure of anti-pollution standards and various taxes.

In 2 wheels, Honda released a scooter 125 (PCX) equipped with "stop & start" technology (also called "micro hybridization") that it is unthinkable not to see generalize on 4 wheels.

The fact remains that homes with a garage and several cars could, for the most part, use an EV in a second car, for daily trips ...

I have had a Prius 2 for a few months and currently, I consume more than 7l / 100km on an urban route only. My last refueling, I was even 7,5l / 100 km. It is much more than in summer when I was carefree under 6l / 100 km.

I am trying to test the consumption without ever putting on heating, it seems to be playing a bit. But my "measurements" will be distorted by the warm weather that is coming ...

It is really surprising these disparities in consumption.
When I read all the "hypermilers" records. : Shock:
During the Crossing of the Alps in VE 2009, the record was established below 4litres per 100km. 8)
This year, with a “4kWh Lithium range extender kit”, the record was “pulverized” on a Prius III with 2,8L / 100km. :P

It is true that I only make short city trips. As soon as I hit the road, it becomes frugal again.

it is all the same quite astonishing this consumption since the interest of this hybridization is precisely to consume less in urban course precisely according to the manufacturer!
When I said that prius is pipeau ...

We can not say that. What would I have consumed, under the same conditions with a Diesel or even a "classic" gasoline? Probably much more. I remind you: short trips, not very cold weather, obliged to defrost the ice at least once a day, etc ... all this leads to high energy consumption.

The results of this test are bogus on the road trip ... The VW is equipped with an auto (robotized) gearbox that hesitates ... Of course it hesitates ... At the speeds announced on the road trip it had to pass on the sixth only in the decents ... And again ... My brother with a Passat TDI 140 station wagon (heavier) taxi use (always as fast as possible) consumes 2l / 100 less ...
