Europe: one billion euros for the fuel cell

Transport and new transport: energy, pollution, engine innovations, concept car, hybrid vehicles, prototypes, pollution control, emission standards, tax. not individual transport modes: transport, organization, carsharing or carpooling. Transport without or with less oil.

Europe: one billion euros for the fuel cell

by Christophe » 15/10/08, 10:24

It seems that this is not the crisis for everyone ... a billion who will go up in smoke for the, I quote "demonstration" then I am surprised that Brussels decision-makers can be ruined in this way but after all it's not their money ... Finally: Brussels lobbyists live!

1000 million euros spread throughout Europe in 6 years for the CONS ... bustible battery (sorry) running on H2 ... which will never solve anything because H2 is only a vector and it is not naturally present on earth and unless it is produced by the sun (cf. https://www.econologie.com/hydrogene-sol ... -3952.html ou https://www.econologie.com/le-solaire-co ... -3224.html ) what I doubt!

Well it will change nothing or almost to the supremacy of fossil fuels ... It will just give the impression that it is cleaner ...

We will have taken a big step when people understand that the problem of heat pumps (and of all energy systems in the end) is not only the heat pump itself but the fuel we give it to drink!

It's been years that PACs with integrated reformer that allows to run on gasoline, methanol or bioethanol ... Pkoi the article continues to talk about this hydrogen (shit) untransportable?

Imagine 0.1% of this sum injected into the Laigret project or even in water doping (it is not too late to do well) ... Image

Europe yesterday launched a joint technology initiative (ITC) of a billion euros to accelerate the marketing of fuel cells and hydrogen.

Brussels sees this initiative as a means of "making fuel cells and hydrogen one of the new strategic cutting-edge technologies in the energy field": "The efficient conversion technology of fuel cells and the clean energy carrier of hydrogen can go a long way in helping Europe meet the energy challenges it faces"states a press release from Brussels.

The European Commission, industry and the European research community, which constitute this public-private partnership that is the common technological initiative (JTI), will invest together, over a period of six years, nearly one billion euros. euros in research, technological development and demonstration on fuel cells and hydrogen. The objective is to develop a mass market for these technologies before 2020.

"It is in our best interest to invest in such a results-oriented scientific research project", explains Janez Potocnik, European Commissioner for Science and Research, who welcomes the meeting of more than 60 private companies, ranging from multinationals to SMEs, the European Commission and an equivalent number of universities and research centers. "This ITC brings together the most important players to put Europe at the head of the race for new energy technologies," he adds. I hope that we will see a snowball effect in other areas of strategic research. ”

The first general meeting of stakeholders, which will take place in Brussels on October 14 and 15, will mark the official launch of the technology initiative.

Brussels hopes, through this initiative, to accelerate the development of fuel cells and hydrogen technologies in Europe and to allow their commercialization between 2010 and 2020. ITC's activities should make it possible to reduce from 2 to 5 years the time needed to commercialize hydrogen and fuel cell technologies.

The partnership will implement an integrated program of basic and applied research, technological development as well as demonstration and support activities, targeted at the most promising applications.

This JTI is also presented as the first practical example of the future European initiatives foreseen by the European strategic plan for energy technologies (SET plan) which has a crucial role to play in accelerating the development and adoption of low intensity technologies. carbon.

The first call for proposals, with an indicative budget of 28,1 million euros, was published on October 8, 2008. It covers areas such as transport and supply infrastructure, as well as production, storage and the distribution of hydrogen.

The legal entity, the fuel cell and hydrogen joint venture, will be managed by a steering committee. Day-to-day management and operation will be the responsibility of an executive director supported by the program office established in Brussels, while a scientific committee will advise the steering committee. Member States will have to monitor activities closely, through the group of State representatives.

The general meeting of stakeholders will be held annually.

PS: 1000 MILLION FOR INDUSTRIALS OK BUT WE DON'T COME ASK US FOR A CENTIME OF EUROS IN ADDITIONAL TAXES TO FULFILL THE FINANCIAL CRISIS AND BANKER CONNERIES !!

This news motivates me a little more to make the association that would restore people's decision-making power in energy research ...

Well, it would seem that the Flemings used this money for a concrete use:

World's largest fuel cell put into service in Antwerp

Monday 06 February 2012, 14:05
"Thanks to the combination of hydrogen and oxygen molecules in a catalytic reaction, the fuel cell produces water, electricity and thermal energy. It thus helps to optimize the energy efficiency of the electrolysis of the SolVin plant. This first success on an industrial scale brings the technology of fuel cells with proton exchange membranes above a new threshold, "Solvay explains in a press release. The fuel cell uses the hydrogen (H2) co-produced by the plant to transform it into electricity. Operational for a few weeks, the fuel cell has already generated more than 500 MW in 800 hours of operation, which is equivalent to the electricity consumption of 1.370 households during the same period. The pilot project, with a total budget of 14 million euros, is funded by the European Union, the Flemish government, the Dutch government and industry. Fuel cells represent a key technology for producing clean energy for a wide variety of applications in the field of sustainable mobility, as well as cogeneration and electricity production facilities, adds Solvay.

Fuel cells are a key technology for producing clean energy .
there they push a little : Cheesy:

the just quoted:

hydrogen (H2) co-produced by the factory to transform it into electricity.

Maybe this hydrogen is a waste product or a waste product?
I know Solvay well enough to have been their supplier: they are quite serious about the environment: they are not going to "have fun" making hydrogen.

Admittedly, it is much better than nuclear (I think)
But to say "clean energy", I say no, because use of precious, rare, toxic metals, to make the catalyst.
But hey, the techniques are evolving. (search for simpler, less polluting catamarans)

Absolutely.
The manufacturing method for PVC is to react ethylene with chlorine.

Chlorine can be produced by electrolysis of a salt solution (NaCl)
We then produce chlorine on one side and hydrogen on the other.

The solution must be sufficiently concentrated in salt otherwise the water is electrolyzed and oxygen is produced instead of chlorine ...

it is one of the few efficient use of fuel cells

compared to a battery the fuel cell is worth nothing: you need an electrolyser, a means of hydrogen storage, and a fuel cell ... any battery does the same job for much less, and a yield total best

but at solvay when the main activity and electrolyzing salt to make chlorine, it makes hydrogen at the other electrode ... if this hydrogen cannot be usefully used for something else a fuel cell is a good way to make the most of it ... in addition to the chlorine electrolysis equipment, the fuel cell uses almost the same means ... the direct current produced by this cell can directly be used to electrolyze the salt , without the need to be converted to 50Hz

this idea is completely obvious and there is no need for subsidy for that ... well at least part of this stupid subsidy will have been usefully used
